Supporting our Retired Public Servants

Over the weekend, I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle in passing the state budget, which will support our neighbors here in the North Hills and across Pennsylvania – all without any new taxes.

One updated policy from the budget that I would like to highlight is a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for our retired public servants, including teachers, police officers and firefighters. Our public servants have given so much to our community, and they deserve the fair compensation that they were promised upon retirement.

New Grant Funding for our Community

One of my priorities is securing state funds for our community. This week I am proud to share that two projects in McCandless received grant funding through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The North Allegheny School District will receive $1.25 million to renovate the school’s aquatics center, and the Allegheny Police and Fire Academy will receive $1.1 million for electrical work. You can learn more about these grants here.

Marking Emsworth’s Birthday – and other District Updates

In a year of major birthdays, including our nation’s 250th, it was great to join our neighbors in Emsworth to mark the borough’s 130th birthday and see the new mural celebrating this wonderful community.

The Indian-American community in Western Pennsylvania is a vibrant part of our region.

As one of two Indian-American legislators in our Commonwealth, I was proud to join fellow Indian-Americans in welcoming to Pittsburgh Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, Consul-General of India in New York City.

Our state and nation’s future will benefit from the strong partnership between the US and India. Thank you to Consul-General Pradhan for his leadership and traveling to Pittsburgh to meet the local Indian-American community.

I Love My State Parks Week

The past week marked I Love My State Parks Week, when we recognize the 125 fantastic state parks throughout Pennsylvania – including the parks local to our region such as Point State Park, Moraine State Park, and Raccoon Creek State Park.

You can learn more about all of Pennsylvania’s state parks, including the different recreational opportunities at each, here.

Franklin Park Wants to Hear from You

The Franklin Park Recreation Board is seeking input on how to improve the quality of the borough’s recreational opportunities, park facilities, and trails. The survey is open to residents, business owners, workers in Franklin Park, and anyone who frequents the borough’s parks.

The survey can be completed here. Responses are due August 31.

Finally, please remember that my talented staff can help you with a variety of state-related matters – from filing an application for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to obtaining a disability placard or senior bus pass, just to name a few. Contact us or stop by to see how we can help!
