Human Trafficking Awareness Training Passes House!

Video

This week my legislation to mandate human trafficking awareness training for public lodging employees passed the House by a UNANIMOUS vote! This is something I’ve been working on for a long time, so I’m thrilled to see this finally get one step closer to becoming a law. As we approach 2026, the Philadelphia region will have worldwide attention with America250 events, FIFA World Cup matches, the MLB All-Star game and more, which studies show increase instances of human trafficking. While this issue is larger than 2026, it is crucial that we act now. We can end human trafficking through education and encouraging people to speak up when they see something wrong. It takes all of us to stand up for victims and be vigilant in prevention.

I hosted a press conference in the Capitol with my co-sponsors, Councilmember Nina Ahmad who has championed this issue through Philadelphia City Council, and industry supporters to highlight the need for this training and to celebrate this exciting progress. Investing in Our Communities

I was thrilled to announce this week that more than $2.1 million has been awarded to community and infrastructure improvement projects across South and Southwest Philadelphia and Delaware County. These investments are a lifeline for vital community assets and organizations doing incredible work in our neighborhoods, while also strengthening the infrastructure that keeps our communities healthy, clean, and safe.

Seniors Ride FREE on SEPTA

Did you know that seniors ride for free on SEPTA? A SEPTA Senior Fare Card allows seniors 65 and older to ride for free, but those cards do expire after three years. My office can help you get or renew your card. As we continue to work on a State Budget solution for mass transit, senior fare cards still allow you to ride for free to your medical appointments, your job, visiting family and friends, or anything you need to do in our region.

SEPTA keeps our communities moving and economy thriving – and a senior fare card helps your wallet by saving on transportation costs! Contact my office today for more information on getting or renewing your SEPTA Senior Fare Card.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Today, we held our Coordinated Diaper Drive drop-off at the Barclay Square WIC facility in Upper Darby alongside our dedicated volunteers, including my colleagues Rep. Gina H. Curry, Rep. Lisa Borowski, and Sen. Tim Kearney. We’re grateful for everyone who contributed and look forward to providing many diapers to families in need.

This week, we presented a citation to Gloria Kingcade in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the cultural, artistic, and civic life of Philadelphia through soul line dancing and over 25 years of dedicated service at St. Edmond Senior Community Center. Congratulations, Gloria!

Confronting the Chaos

The actions that are happening right now with the federal government in Washington, D.C. have been very overwhelming with what seems like daily attacks on our neighbors, our freedoms and basic rights. Just remember that there are always people to help. If you are concerned about the actions being taken on immigration, I encourage you to contact these local organizations listed in this document below. Additionally, while my office is here to assist you with state and local services, your concerns on these federal actions need to be heard by your federal officials. Check out the list of our federal representatives and senators and contact their offices for assistance or to let them know about your concerns. We’ve seen recently how advocacy and loud objections can lead to a course reversal or reevaluation by the president and his administration.

Don’t give up and don’t give in.

Know your rights and stay vigilant for your family and your community.
