Strengthening Childcare for Working Families

Video

This week in the House Labor and Industry Committee, we held an informational hearing about childcare solutions for working parents. It was a great discussion about this important issue that faces so many hardworking families in our community and you can watch the full hearing here.

The meeting was not without some frustration, though, as some of my colleagues felt the need to focus on issues that were beyond the scope of what we were there to discuss. It gave me the perfect opportunity to explain to our wonderful testifiers that these distractions and diversions are a stark example of the real-life complications we regularly face in state government. You can watch my comments from the meeting by clicking the image above.

Mail-In Ballot Deadline is Tuesday!

Have you made your plan to vote yet?

The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is this Tuesday, May 12. Voting with a mail-in ballot is still a simple, safe and secure way to ensure that your voice is heard. Your mail-in ballot can be returned through the mail or dropped off at a secure drop-box or Philadelphia Satellite Election Office.

You can take care of all your voting needs at one of Philadelphia’s Satellite Election Offices. Our closest offices are at 6100 Woodland Ave. in the Woodland Village Plaza or 1835 S. Broad St. Philadelphia voters can get all the information they need at PhillyVotes.com.

In Delco, the Voter Service Center is at the Government Center in Media, but there are several ballot drop boxes near our area in Darby and Yeadon. Delaware County voters can visit DelcoPA.gov/vote for more information.

Don’t wait! Make your plan to vote TODAY!

Local Resource to Fight Human Trafficking

Video

As a member of the bipartisan & bicameral Anti-Human Trafficking Caucus, I was happy to welcome Edwin Desamour, executive director of The Lighthouse in Philadelphia, for a discussion about their program called Influenced which is designed to support parents and young people with the tools and knowledge they need to avoid dangers of human trafficking that exist in online platforms like social media and gaming.

You can click above to watch our brief discussion and check out their website to learn more about the services they provide in Philadelphia and beyond.

Opening Message for the House

Video

This week, I had the privilege of delivering the opening message for the PA House before we began our legislative work. I asked for divine guidance and reminded us of our responsibility as legislators to deliver for the people in our communities who are counting on us.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Video

Recently, Archwell Health held the grand opening for their new Melrose facility at 2201 W. Oregon Ave. in South Philly! It was an exciting day to learn about all the services and resources they can provide for our area seniors. Be sure to check out what they have to offer!

This was a busy week for visits at the Capitol! I was pleased to meet with representatives from PennFuture, advocates for pediatric doctors, and Haleem Franklin, a volunteer in our office and owner of Franklin Photography, along with Jalen Campbell from Team 185.

What a pleasure it was to visit with students from Bartram High School this week at the Capitol and have them meet with Speaker of the PA House Joanna McClinton and other members of the Philadelphia House Delegation.

Team 185 was out walking through neighborhoods in South Philadelphia around 63rd Street and Grays Avenue to let residents know about the services my office can provide! Be sure to check out our materials if we leave something for you, and contact us to learn how we can serve you!
