Ensuring Safety for ALL Students
|
Protecting children at any and every level of education should be our priority as legislators. This week in the House Education Committee we moved the Cyber Student Safety Act that I co-sponsored which would establish wellness and safety protection protocols for students in cyber charter school programs. As a parent and legislator, I support practical safeguards to ensure that all students, including those in cyber charter programs, receive the same level of protection, care, and intervention expected in a public education setting. I just want to see our kids provided for in a safe and caring environment. Click above to watch my comments from the committee meeting.

My committees were extra busy this week in Harrisburg! We also had a voting meeting of the Labor & Industry Committee on a handful of bills on everything from providing opportunities for our youth, to prohibiting noncompete clauses for certain workers, to ensuring that school administrators in Pittsburgh are allowed to collectively bargain for improved workplace conditions just as our administrators in Philadelphia are allowed to do. You can click above to watch that informative meeting!

Committees are where the real action happens in the state legislature. Debate, discussion, and deliberations have become more commonplace in these smaller, more focused groups than in the House chamber with the full membership. I’m honored to be appointed to all of my committees and enjoy the purposeful work that we do. Check out my list of appointments and learn more about the work in these committees!

Does the State Owe You Money?

Are you one of the nearly 30,000 people in our area who has Unclaimed Property in the PA Treasury Vault? It could be anything from lost paychecks, to jewelry, to forgotten savings bonds, or so much more. Our office is reaching out to our neighbors who have something valuable in the vault, but you can search your name on their website by clicking above to find out on your own and make your claim faster!

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Deadline Extended
|
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is now open for taxes or rent that you paid in 2025. This program provides a rebate ranging from $380 to $1,000 to eligible older adults and people with disabilities while meeting certain household income requirements. In Philadelphia, supplemental rebates provide an additional $190 to $500 in relief to applicants with the most need.
These rebates have made it easier for older and disabled folks to stay in their homes while affording groceries, medicine, and so much more.
The deadline has been extended to December 31, but there’s no reason to wait!
Apply online today or contact one of my offices to find out if you qualify and let us help you apply!

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
