Progress on a State Budget

As this message is being written, there are encouraging developments in negotiations with the state Senate on the budget. As a majority member of the House Appropriations Committee, we’re expecting to see the outline and numbers of the plan on Saturday evening and a planned committee vote, followed by action in the House and Senate on Sunday. As the elements of the budget move through the process and we get solid information, watch my social media for updated information and make sure you’re subscribed to this e-newsletter for a round up once we have a budget approved signed by the governor.

Free Books & Water Ice

Come out to my Southwest Philly office on Tuesday afternoon for free water ice and book giveaway! We will set you up with state and local resources that can benefit you and your family, as well, so don’t miss this chance to connect over a delicious water ice! We’re at 6844 Elmwood Ave. in Southwest Philly. I can’t wait to visit with you!

Music in the Park

Again, this summer I’m hosting a Music in the Park series! This year, the Kevin James Band will be performing at both events. Bring your blanket or chairs to Stephen Girard Park on Thursday night, July 16 beginning at 6 p.m., for a night of great music, dancing, community, and information from my office and other local vendors.

It’s always a great time at our Music in the Park events, and I can’t wait to dance with you and the Kevin James Band on Thursday night.

Summertime Meals for Kids

SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s summer EBT program, is a grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at participating local retailers to purchase groceries.

Many children will receive these benefits automatically, but some families may need to apply. Benefits will be added to an existing SNAP/TANF EBT card or issued on a new summer EBT card.

If your child is automatically eligible, you can expect to receive their SUN Bucks benefit by the end of July. Use the Eligibility Navigator to determine whether your child is automatically eligible for SUN Bucks or whether you need to apply. The application deadline to receive benefits in 2026 is August 31.

Got questions? Call the SUN Bucks pre-recorded FAQ line at: 1-877-762-1575 learn more online.

Summer Walking Tour

Keep an eye out for Team 185 as my staff and I will be knocking on doors in our communities all summer long to make sure that you know about the information and resources that we can provide. It’s also a good chance to interact with our neighbors so you can let us know what changes and improvements are needed in your neighborhood!

Check out the graphic above for the starting location, date, and time for when we’ll be near your community!

IN THE COMMUNITY

My staff was hard at work with the staff and new director at Cradles to Crayons for their bookbag giveaway this week! Happy to connect so many families in our community with the essentials for a good school year!

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 12th Police District station for the town hall meeting this week. #InformationIsPower and getting involved in community meetings like this is a great way to stay connected.

PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Does the State Owe You Money?

Are you one of the nearly 30,000 people in our area who has Unclaimed Property in the PA Treasury Vault? It could be anything from lost paychecks, to jewelry, to forgotten savings bonds, or so much more. Our office is reaching out to our neighbors who have something valuable in the vault, but you can search your name on their website by clicking above to find out on your own and make your claim faster!

State Grants Available

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
