Donna Bullock, a member of the School Safety and Security Committee, today applauded over $2 million in state grants to support strengthening safety and security provisions in classrooms across Philadelphia. Bullock, D-Phila., said the funding was made available through the Committee, a subsidiary of Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. “In the second year of this grant program, the statewide funding demand again far outstripped the available resources. Each school district received a minimum grant amount, and competitive grants were awarded to public school entities and community violence reduction partners,” Bullock said. “I want to thank all the members of the SSSC and the staff at the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for their diligent work throughout this grant process, as well as our Appropriations Committee staff for their support.” The grant money is a part of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s School Safety and Security Committee approval of $53.7 million in school safety and security grants to 524 school entities throughout the commonwealth. (Feb 05, 2020)

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 5 – State Rep. Donna Bullock, D-Phila., applauded the 2020-21 budget proposal outlined yesterday by Gov. Tom Wolf. “Governor Wolf’s proposal sends a clear message that he is dedicated to creating a fairer, more equal Pennsylvania for everyone,” said Bullock, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee. “I want to help make these changes a reality by getting to the truth during budget hearings and learning how we can really set Pennsylvanians up for success in the future.” Bullock said Wolf’s budget proposal includes heavy investment in public schools and early childhood education, as well a new workforce initiative to prepare more workers for in-demand jobs. Wolf proposed a new scholarship program to help students in the State System of Higher Education avoid crushing student debt. “Education is hugely important for creating career opportunities, especially for people of color in Pennsylvania. Bullock stands with survivors, advocates to introduce Gun Violence Survivors Week

(Feb 03, 2020)

In her ongoing fight to end gun violence, state Rep. Donna Bullock today joined survivors and advocates from Moms Demand Action to mark the first week of February as Gun Violence Survivors Week in the commonwealth. “ Just days ago, a 4-year-old child in my community died from a gunshot wound inside his home,” said Bullock, D-Phila. “We can’t sit idly by and let these heartbreaking tragedies continue. Today, we honor the lives taken, stand with survivors, and vow to keep pushing to protect our communities, especially our children, from this public health crisis.” Bullock said her initiative ( H.R. 662 ) is meant to be another tool to help spread awareness on the social costs associated with gun violence, motivate improvements to public policies meant to prevent further bloodshed, and to give a voice to survivors who are often faced with a long road to recovery. " My mom was killed 6 years ago, and it still feels like it all happened yesterday," said Gina Pelusi, Everytown for Gun Safety survivor fellow and Moms Demand Action volunteer. "When someone is killed in such a sudden and violent way, it feels virtually impossible to wrap your head around the reality. The mental and physical toll of gun violence is something that survivor s will carry with them forever. We may learn to cope better over time, but we are never the same." As a member of the PA Safe Caucus , Bullock continues to work Read more
