E-Blast: Happy Maternal Health Awareness Day!

PA Representative Gina Curry banner image

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

Happy Maternal Health Awareness Day! Today is a powerful reminder that every mother and birthing person deserves to be seen, heard, protected, and supported before, during, and after pregnancy. As your state legislator, strengthening maternal health across Pennsylvania remains one of my most urgent priorities.

In 2023, I was proud to co-found the Pennsylvania Black Maternal Health Caucus alongside State Representatives Morgan Cephas (D–Philadelphia) and La’Tasha D. Mayes (D–Allegheny). Together, with 49 other lawmakers, we are advancing legislation and solutions that confront the maternal health crisis and work to ensure safer outcomes for families across our Commonwealth.

Over the past two years, we have made real progress. And still, we know the work is far from finished, especially as Black mothers continue to face unacceptable disparities here in Pennsylvania and nationwide. That is why I remain committed to pushing for better care, stronger protections, and expanded resources for pregnant, birthing, and postpartum families.

I am hopeful because I know what happens when communities come together, when we elevate lived experience, and when we fight for policies rooted in dignity and justice. And I continue working every day to help build a Pennsylvania where every mom and baby can thrive.

In service,

Gina H. Curry

State Representative

164th Legislative District

Winter weather is headed our way

Predictions about the winter weather heading our way this weekend are inconsistent, but we know that there’s potential for snow and very cold temperatures. Take a look at the graphic above for some easy ways to prepare ahead of time.

Delaware County has this helpful information about cold weather resources available to you. There’s also a map of cold weather warming stations for people seeking shelter.

Stay safe!

On Monday, Jan. 26, our office will be virtual due to the weather

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.

This week I honored the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. by attending several commemorative events in our region.

I participated in Senator Sharif Street’s Reverend Marguerite Handy Interfaith Breakfast and Prison Visit, named in honor of Reverend Marguerite Handy, who was instrumental in forming the Philadelphia Peaceful Surrender program.

I attended the YMCA of Eastern Delaware County’s Unity Breakfast, where we heard from guest speaker Dr. Marta Year Cronin, President of Delaware County Community College, and hear Upper Darby student and Shooting Stars performer Manny Isles sing movement songs to kick off the event.

I spoke at the Lansdowne Borough Martin Luther King Jr. Day Ceremony at the Twentieth Century Club, and heard from others about his life, works, and legacy.

Kicking off America250PA

I was also glad to head to the Media Courthouse this week to kick off America250PA, the state’s celebration of Amerca’s 250th birthday this July. Delaware County has deep history in the growth of our nation. Check out america250padelco.org to learn more and see what events they have planned in the lead up to July.

$4 million investment into Main Line Health

Our House Delaware County Delegation gathered at Riddle Hospital on Wednesday for a press conference discussing a $4 million investment into Main Line Health to ease the burden caused by the closure of the Crozer Health System in Delaware County. After the press conference there was a roundtable discussion with hospital officials.

Wins for William Penn School District

Thursday I had the honor of standing together with Speaker Joanna McClinton, Chairman Jordan Harris, and other regional lawmakers to share the budget wins and impacts of new funding for the William Penn School District.

I know firsthand the impact that chronic underfunding has had on students, families, educators, and staff. The wins we discussed Thursday reflect the power of advocacy, the importance of the William Penn lawsuit, and what’s possible when the Commonwealth finally listens and takes action.
