E-Blast: Don't Miss Our Blood Drive on 9/3!

PA Representative Gina Curry banner image

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

It’s officially back-to-school time in Delaware County! The Upper Darby School District heads back to classes on Monday, and William Penn’s students can look forward to one final week of summer break before they head back on September 1.

This summer truly flew by, and I was happy to spend many moments of it with you. Our Backpack Resource Fairs in August, local PA 250 celebrations in July, Delco Pride in June, welcoming summer interns to our office, and hosting our annual Youth Legislative Council are all reminders of how close-knit we are as a community and how proud I am to be your representative.

This fall, my office has several supportive events planned, and I invite you to join us for one—or for them all! You’ll find more information about them below.

Good luck to all the students heading back to school in the coming weeks! We’re all

so proud of you.

In service,

We're Back!

Save a life next Thursday!

Did you know we’re facing a national blood supply shortage?

Blood supplies are at an all-time low, making it harder for hospitals to provide life-saving emergency care.

But you can help! I’m partnering with state Sen. Tim Kearney to host a Red Cross Blood Drive from noon to 5:00 p.m. next Thursday, September 3, at the Watkins Senior Center in Upper Darby.

Every donation can save a life. To schedule an appointment, head to RedCrossBlood.org.

Just for girls in fourth through eighth grade!

Fourth through eighth grade—roughly ages 9 through 13—can be some of the toughest years for young girls. They’re growing and changing at a rapid pace while, at the same time, facing peer pressure and learning how to navigate changing, peer-led social “rules.” It can be a stressful and upsetting time.

My annual Inspi-HER’d event is designed to help girls in this age group learn their worth, gain social problem-solving skills, build confidence, and get to know local organizations that are there to help—all while participating in fun, energizing activities.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 26, at Naylors Run Park.

Community support from the Fanta Bility Foundation

The Fanta Bility Foundation is named in honor of 8-year-old Fanta, who lost her life to unexpected police gunfire while leaving a Friday night football game in August 2021.

Fanta’s mother, siblings, and her cousin, Delaware County Sheriff Siddiq Kamara, continue to support our school communities and honor her memory by hosting an annual school supply giveaway.

This year marked the 5th Annual Fanta Bility Bookbag Giveaway. It was a pleasure to attend and see the community come together to remember Fanta and help prepare students for the new academic year.

Water at Watkins Senior Center and Simpson Gardens Apartments

This week, we co-hosted water giveaway events at Watkins Senior Center in Upper Darby and Simpson Gardens Apartments in Lansdowne, along with Patriot Home Care and CareRing. During the event, I had the chance to meet many of our senior residents and share important information about state programs and services that support their health, wellness, and ability to age comfortably.

Kicking off the school year with William Penn School District

The William Penn School District Back-to-School Bash was yet again a great celebration to kick off the new academic year! I am always so energized by the students and the incredible support from community organizations that provide free resources to the families who attend.

New SEPTA schedules for some lines!

If you use SEPTA for all or part of your commute, be sure to visit their New Schedules update page to see if anything’s changed. Certain adjustments went into effect on August 23 and 24!
