My bill to ensure the safety of Allegheny County probation officers approved by committee
I’ve been working on legislation to increase the safety of probation officers in Allegheny County, and I’m proud to report that it advanced unanimously out of the House Transportation Committee this week. House Bill 2479 would allow emergency lights on the vehicles of armed probation officers in Allegheny County, the state’s Fifth Judicial District. As a former McKeesport police officer, I understand that this is an important safety measure that ensures probation officers are easily recognizable.
Current law allows for emergency lights on the vehicles of armed probation officers only in Philadelphia, but none outside of Philadelphia. I believe that Allegheny County’s armed probation officers also need to alert their presence to the public and other first responders.
My bill now moves to the full House for consideration.

Fighting for consumers against excessive utility profits
I was proud to support an important bill that passed the House this week to push back against record profits by utilities. House Bill 2224, the Return on Equity Act, cleared the House and now heads to the Senate.
I backed this bill to put money back in your pocket at a time when utility companies are reaping record profits. Our current system delivers excessive profits for shareholders through excessive ROE (Return on Investment), which is the biggest driver of unnecessary rate hikes.
This bill evens the playing field and forces utilities to accept a fair ROE. Read more about it here.

Celebrating Munhall’s 125th anniversary
I was honored to join Sen. Nick Pisciottano in recognizing Munhall on its 125th anniversary recently and to present proclamations from both the House and Senate celebrating this milestone. A huge thank you to the Munhall 125th Committee for organizing such a wonderful event for residents across the community. And thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration worthy of such an incredible borough. Munhall’s history and spirit truly shine.
