Green announces grant funding for community projects

Over $10.7 million awarded to improvements in North & West Philly

PHILADELPHIA, July 17 – State Rep. Roni Green, D-Phila., announced today that eight projects in her legislative district have received a total of $10.7 million from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The projects are:

  • $2.5 million to Deliverance Community Development Corp. for the 3031 N. 21st St. senior affordable housing project.
  • $2 million to the Ink Building project for building repairs and conversion to a workforce development hub.
  • $200,000 to the Mann Center for the Performing Arts for new building construction to house classrooms, a recording studio, offices and an event space.
  • $1 million to the Nexus Sports Center project to create a light-duty manufacturing facility for Courtside Video Entertainment.
  • $500,000 to the Nicetown Neighborhood Economic Generator project to build a new, first-in-class career readiness and economic opportunity generator.
  • $1 million to renovate and improve the Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Brith Sholom 16-story high-rise building.
  • $500,000 to the Skyview Senior Apartments – The Mill II mixed-use housing and retail development in the Mill Creek neighborhood.
  • $3 million to Philadelphia Youth Basketball Inc. for the renovation and development of a world-class basketball and youth development community center project.

“I’m proud to support these grants for projects in our communities in North and West Philadelphia,” Green said. “In a time when affordable housing and good jobs are in need, these projects will help our residents find both. I’m also happy that our youth will benefit with educational and recreational spaces being developed. Each of these projects will uplift our neighborhoods in different ways and continue to inspire community spirit.”

RACP is a state grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. Projects under RACP cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
