What’s a Senior Fair?

Dear Friends,

It was wonderful seeing so many of you at the Lower Gwynedd Fall Festival last weekend! We were lucky to have beautiful weather and such a great turnout from across the community. This weekend, two of our fall festivals, North Wales Community Day and the Whitpain Fall Festival, were canceled due to anticipated inclement weather. However, the Jaisohn Center Fall Festival and Health Fair has been moved indoors and will take place tomorrow from 1 PM to 5 PM! We hope to see you there!

I also wanted to use this week’s email to highlight an event that my office will be hosting next Friday at the Ambler Area YMCA. On October 2, we will hold our Annual Senior Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to noon. This is one of the events I look forward to most each year because it brings together so many organizations and resources that can be helpful to older adults and their families.

Recently, someone reached out to ask a simple question: What actually happens at a Senior Resource Fair? It made me realize that many people might not know what to expect, so I thought this week was the perfect opportunity to give you a preview. All of the photos and video included in this email were taken at our previous Senior Resource Fairs and offer a glimpse of what you can expect when you join us on October 2.

As part of my office’s ongoing commitment to serving our community, we want to make sure that residents, especially our seniors, have the information, tools, and resources they need to navigate the challenges and opportunities that come their way. We are fortunate to live in a community with so many organizations dedicated to supporting older adults and their families. Our Senior Resource Fair is a wonderful opportunity to bring these organizations together, showcase the services they provide, and help connect residents with the resources that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Senior Resource Fair Details

At the Senior Resource Fair, the Ambler Y gymnasium will be filled with organizations ready to connect with you. Each organization will have a table where you can learn more about the services and resources they offer to our community. This year, we are excited to have 50 vendors participating, all there to answer questions, share information, and connect you with resources that may be helpful to you or your family.

Whether you are looking for help with an ongoing concern, exploring new opportunities, or simply want to learn more about the resources available in our community, we encourage you to stop by. My office will also be there throughout the event, and we would love the opportunity to talk with you!

Below is a sneak peek of organizations to expect at our Senior Fair.

Medical Organizations in attendance:

Eric’s RX Shoppe will be providing Flu, RSV, and COVID-19 vaccinations. If you need vaccinations, please register here and you can receive them at the Senior Fair!
Jefferson Health will be providing blood pressure screenings for all.
The Jaisohn Center will provide information about healthcare services, preventive health screenings, community health navigation, senior programs, social services, home healthcare, and other community resources available to older adults and their families.

Transportation Organizations:

SEPTA will be in attendance to help Seniors apply for their free Senior Key Card. If you are interested, please bring an ID or Driver’s License to apply!
PennDOT will be providing safety materials and information on 511.

Veterans Organizations:

Norristown Vet Center will be in attendance to provide resources and giveaways for Veterans.
The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veteran Affairs will be providing resources and information for service members, veterans, and their families.

Philanthropic Organizations:

Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard will have information on the various goods and services available at their location.
Mitzvah Circle will be providing information on how they can serve your family if you are in need of essential items.

Public Safety Organizations:

Montgomery County District Attorney and Office of Public Safety, the Upper Gwynedd Police Department, and the Whitpain Township Fire Marshal will be in attendance to provide information on best practice to keep yourself safe.

And this is just a small sampling of the organizations that will be joining us!

The Senior Resource Fair is ultimately about connecting you with the right people and resources. We understand that life sometimes brings challenges that require specialized assistance, and there are times when a need may fall outside the scope of what my office can provide directly. That’s exactly why events like this are so important.

Whether you’re looking for healthcare resources, transportation assistance, veterans’ services, help with essential needs, public safety information, affordable housing options, or simply want to learn more about what’s available in our community, we want to help connect you with the people who can.
