Data Centers and Affordability

It’s officially spring, and with the warmer days, comes a full calendar of events across the 161st District and Delaware County. My team and I are excited to be out in the community, and we hope to see you at one (or more!) of these upcoming events:

  • Pet Expo with Sen. John Kane – Saturday, April 18 | 10 AM – 1 PM

One of our most popular events! Join us at Upland Park where you will find pet vendors, giveaways, treats and FREE vaccines for dogs and cats and FREE microchipping for dogs (Delaware County residents only). Supplies are limited and are on a first served basis, beginning at 10 AM. No registration required.

  • Medicare 101 Workshop – Tuesday, April 21 | 6:30 PM

This is a FREE workshop at the Ridley Township Public Library, where a PA MEDI counselor will help you better understand Medicare coverage, enrollment, and important deadlines. Call or email my office to register.

At the Capitol

This week, we’re back in Harrisburg for legislative session. I have welcomed a number of visitors from Delaware County to my office this week, including the President of Riddle Hospital and a large group of students from Neumann University.

I’m proud to be working on and voting for bills that increase transparency, strengthen accountability and keep power in the hands of hardworking Pennsylvanians.

Protecting our communities means keeping utility costs down, ensuring access to clean water, and supporting responsible technological growth. At a time when families and seniors are dealing with rising prices for gas, groceries, housing, and healthcare, no one should have to worry about additional increases to their utility bills due to data center development.

Yesterday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed two data center bills with bipartisan support.

H.B. 2150 - would require data center developers to disclose key details about their operations, including energy and water usage, to the state, helping to ensure accountability for companies looking to build in our communities.

H.B. 2151 – would give municipalities the authority to regulate data centers through voluntary local ordinances, allowing them to address concerns such as noise, location, equipment, and building design.

Last month, we also passed H.B 1834, which has been sent to the Senate. This legislation ensures that energy costs associated with large data centers are not passed on to residential customers or small businesses.

Serving as Speaker Pro Tempore

I had the honor of serving as Speaker Pro Tempore and presiding over our voting session in Harrisburg, stepping in for Speaker of the House, Rep. McClinton. It was a great opportunity to help guide the legislative process. I’m grateful for the Speaker’s trust and guidance in allowing me to take on this responsibility.

Blue – Green Caucus Press Event

I was proud to join my colleagues, along with environmental and labor advocates, at the Blue-Green Caucus press conference to launch a new package of legislation focused on expanding clean energy and creating good-paying union jobs here in Pennsylvania.

The 2026 Blue-Green Package includes initiatives like installing solar on warehouses, expanding geothermal energy, and creating workforce development programs to help veterans enter the growing sustainability sector.

Black Maternal Health Week

I joined my colleagues in Harrisburg to recognize Black Maternal Health Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness and advancing education around maternal health disparities in communities of color.

This week is an important reminder that we must continue working to ensure healthier outcomes for moms and babies here in Pennsylvania and across the country.

Protecting patient care in Delaware County

While I was in Harrisburg, I met with Jim Paradis, President of Main Line Health Riddle Hospital, to discuss the current state of patient care and healthcare services in Delaware County.

Our conversation focused on the growing challenges facing our local healthcare system, especially in the wake of Prospect Medical Holdings’ bankrupting Crozer-Chester Medical Center and other hospitals in our community.

Ensuring access to quality, reliable healthcare for Delaware County residents remains a top priority, and I will continue working with local leaders and healthcare providers to support our hospitals and protect patient care.

Neumann University Political Science students

I always enjoy the opportunity to meet with constituents at the Capitol, and it was especially great to spend time with students from Neumann University Political Science Club.

Visits like these are such a meaningful way for students to get a firsthand look at how the Pennsylvania legislature operates and to see the work we do every day to serve our communities. I always appreciate the thoughtful questions, curiosity, and engagement the students bring.

Strengthening community preparedness with the Red Cross

Last Thursday, Lynn Cohen, Executive Director of American Red Cross serving Delaware, Chester, and Montgomery counties, visited my Brookhaven office to provide an overview of the essential role they provide in disaster response, preparedness, and community resilience.

We also discussed several important programs they offer, including water safety for children, the Hero Care Network for service members, veterans, and their families, the Home Fire Campaign, the Bed Shaker Smoke Alarm Program for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, and Red Cross Training Services and Certification Programs. These services make a real difference in keeping our communities safe.

Kicking off baseball and softball season with
Swarthmorewood Athletic Association

On Saturday, I had a great time at the Swarthmorewood Athletic Association’s Opening Day for softball and baseball. It’s always a fun and energizing morning seeing the excitement from the kids, along with the coaches, parents, and the many volunteers who make these programs possible.

While I was there, I was pleased to present a state grant check in the amount of $264,000 to support improvements to Blackrock Park in Ridley Township. This funding will go toward stormwater management upgrades, new playground equipment with safety surfacing and fencing, ADA accessibility improvements, and other important site enhancements.

Thank you to everyone who helps create such a strong sense of community through youth sports!

Opening Day for Nether Providence Softball

This past Sunday, I had a great time attending Nether Providence Softball’s Opening Day where I had the privilege of throwing out the first pitch to kick off the season!

I was also proud to present a $50,000 state grant to support field improvements at Smedley Park. These investments will help ensure players and families have a safe, high-quality space to enjoy for years to come.

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who give their time and energy to make opportunities like this possible for our community.
