Malagari announces $300K traffic safety grant

HATFIELD, Dec. 7 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, today announced that Hatfield Township received an Automated Red Light Enforcement grant to help improve traffic safety.

Information on the project includes:

  • Hatfield Township – $300,000 to improve accessibility and safety at four existing traffic signals in alignment with a recently completed sidewalk connections plan.

“These funds will help improve safety for motorists and pedestrians alike," Malagari said. "This is an investment into the overall safety of our community."

Pennsylvania’s ARLE program aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue.

Grant funding is supplied by fines from red light violations at 31 intersections in Philadelphia. State law specifies that projects improving safety, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion can be considered for funding. Municipalities submitted 123 applications, totaling almost $39.5 million in requests.
