Malagari & Collett present nearly $290K state grant to update Hatfield Twp. wastewater treatment plant

HATFIELD, Oct. 27 – State Rep. Steve Malagari and state Sen. Maria Collett recently presented a $288,039 state grant to the Hatfield Township Municipal Authority to help fund critical upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant.

The project will replace the plant’s sluice gates to help improve water flow and maintain reliable wastewater treatment operations, supporting the continued efficiency and dependability of this essential public infrastructure, the lawmakers said. The funding was awarded through the state Department of Community & Economic Development’s Local Share Account grant program, administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

“I was proud to join Senator Collett to help HTMA earn this award from the state, supporting its investment in one of the most important services it provides to the public,” said Malagari. “This upgrade will make a real difference in allowing HTMA to protect our waterways, maintain reliable service, and help manage costs for our community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support this important project.”

Established in 1960, HTMA provides public sewer service to Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough, as well as portions of Montgomery, Franconia, and Hilltown townships. The authority is responsible for much of the sanitary sewer collection system in Hatfield Township and operates the wastewater treatment facility in Colmar. Its work is essential to collecting and treating wastewater and ensuring that treated water meets environmental standards.

“Wastewater treatment is something most people never think about until something goes wrong,” said Mindy Stinson, executive assistant and office manager for HTMA. “We are immensely grateful to Senator Collett and Representative Malagari for their support of this critical infrastructure project.”
