Malagari honors predecessor in road designation ceremony

SOUDERTON, Oct. 12 – State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-Montgomery, unveiled the sign to the new Honorable Robert W. Godshall Memorial Highway today in a ceremony to honor the former representative.

“This is a grand moment, I’ve been looking forward to seeing his name memorialized here in Souderton,” Malagari said. “As he was my former representative and predecessor, I know firsthand how his life and service had an impact on the people and communities in Montgomery County, and this is a fitting tribute to his long-serving dedication to our area.”

The road designation event included remarks from Malagari, Sen. Maria Collett, Souderton Mayor Dan Yocum, and the Godshall family.

“Throughout his lifetime, Representative Bob Godshall was always committed to improving the lives of his neighbors, constituents, and all Pennsylvanians,” Sen. Collett said. “I was pleased to be a part of today’s dedication to honor his legacy and ensure that his name and good works continue to be remembered for generations to come.”

Perseverance and Telford Fire Companies hoisted flags while a soloist from Zion Mennonite Choir, a church that the Godshall family attended, sang alongside an honor guard.

Malagari included in his speech an anecdote of when Godshall extended his guidance to him when he took over as representative of the 53rd district. He said the well-being of his constituents was at the forefront of Godshall’s concerns and he strives to care for them as well as he did.

Robert "Bob" W. Godshall was a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 53rd Legislative District from 1983 to 2018. PA Route 113, which now bears his name, extends from Schoolhouse Road to County Line Road.
