Malagari announces $1.8 million in state funding for projects to benefit local communities

LANSDALE, Sept. 16 – New funding from the state totaling nearly $1.8 million will go to municipalities and organizations in the 53rd Legislative District to help them provide crucial services that support residents’ needs, state Rep. Steve Malagari announced today. The funding includes projects to modernize infrastructure and upgrade shared recreational spaces.
“These are projects where the impact is clear, benefiting services and spaces our neighbors use every day,” said Malagari. “Better, more inclusive parks, modernized water and wastewater systems that are more reliable – these are projects that matter. I’m glad we were able to work with our local officials and Senator Collett to help get them across the finish line.”
Malagari said he worked with state Sen. Maria Collett to help advocate for grant awards for the projects that overlap their legislative districts.
“I was excited to help secure state funding for projects that reflect our communities’ real needs and priorities: making sure our parks are accessible, our utilities run efficiently and local officials have the tools they need to protect our neighbors,” said Collett. “I’m grateful to Representative Malagari, local leaders in the district and Governor Shapiro for supporting these critical investments in a safer, healthier future.”
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority via the Statewide Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenues to support regional projects in the public interest:
- Hatfield Township Municipal Authority will receive $288,030 toward its project to modernize the township’s water and sewer systems. This specific funding will upgrade the sluice gates in the water treatment plant with more efficient, resilient replacements.
- Lansdale Borough will receive funding for two projects:
- $824,174 to rehabilitate Memorial Park by replacing the deteriorated sidewalks, curbs and parking lot, making them safer and more accessible and improving their connectivity to the surrounding streets. The project will also add 10 shade trees to the park.
- $366,432 to upgrade York & Susquehanna Park by replacing aging playground equipment, installing safer rubber surfacing, and adding new amenities, including a shade structure, seating, picnic tables and a bike rack. The overall updates will make the park more accessible and easier to maintain.
- Souderton Borough will receive $267,000 to upgrade its wastewater plant, located in Franconia Township, to improve its reliability and quality of service. The project will update the aeration system and replace 35-year-old equipment.
- The Career Wardrobe, which serves the entire county, will receive $50,546 to purchase a transit van that will allow the nonprofit to transport donated clothing and goods to the various communities it serves, helping to fulfill its mission to eliminate clothing insecurity.
