McNeill: apply for funding before deadline

HARRISBURG, Sept. 9 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, is encouraging local municipalities, businesses, and economic development or transportation agencies to apply for up to $3 million in grant funding before the Sept. 30 application deadline closes.

McNeill said the grants come through the state’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which encourages economic development and ensures safe and reliable transportation is available to Pennsylvania residents. The Commonwealth Financing Authority approves funding for projects focused on development, water quality, energy infrastructure and more.

“This grant program provides valuable dollars to our communities,” McNeill said. “Projects like the one in Catasauqua are a great example of why this is a great funding option, and why I’m always happy to help with the application. There you had an area that was once considered environmentally scarred and useless.

“Now, that area is coming back and offering not just the borough, but the entire region, a source of pride. I was pleased when Catasauqua was awarded more than $560,000 from these funds. And, I look forward to helping others find the funding they need to improve our quality of life, create jobs and revitalize our neighborhoods.”

Act 89 of 2013 established the dedicated Multimodal Transportation Fund, which stabilizes funding for ports and rail freight, increases aviation investments, establishes dedicated funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, and allows targeted funding for priority investments in any mode.
