Mail-in voting, available in Pennsylvania since this year’s primary election, offers another option to make your voice heard without worrying about finding time to make it to the polls or the weather on election day. During a health emergency, this option provides a safe alternative to in-person voting and is widely available across the country. In fact, according to the Washington Post , 76 percent of eligible voters – 180 million people – are currently eligible to vote by mail in the Nov. 3 general election. Disturbingly, some of the very people who utilize vote by mail are trying to cast doubts on its security . HARRISBURG, Aug. 17 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, today announced the approval by the Commonwealth Financing Authority of two PA Small Water and Sewer fund grants totaling $400,000 to Hanover Township and Mountaintop Area Joint Sanitary Authority. The funds will go toward two separate projects, including: $100,000 to Hanover Township for Phase 3 of the Solomon Creek Interceptor rehabilitation. $300,000 to the Mountaintop Area Joint Sanitary Authority to replace the sanitary sewer system for Glen Summit development in Fairview Township. “Each of these grants will help to fund important projects improving the quality of our water and our lives locally,” Pashinski said. “Once completed, these efforts will reduce pollution and provide safe and reliable service for local users. I’m truly appreciative to my Senate colleagues for their support for these projects, as well as Governor Tom Wolf and his administration for seeing the value in investing these funds in our area.” Hanover Township’s grant will go toward the rehabilitation of 560 linear feet of an existing sewer interceptor along Ferry Road that is over a century old and in failing condition. The improvements will increase the interceptor’s capacity, reduce the infiltration of groundwater, reduce ongoing maintenance needs and provide more reliable sewer services for residents. Renters and homeowners who were financially impacted by the economic slowdown related to the coronavirus pandemic will be able to access applications for rent and mortgage relief beginning Monday, June 29. At that time, applications will be accessible from a red banner on the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency’s website at www.PHFA.org . Homeowners who became unemployed after March 1 or who suffered at least a 30 percent reduction in annual income due to reduced work hours and wages related to COVID-19 may be eligible for financial assistance to help with missed mortgage payments. To qualify for the Pandemic Mortgage Assistance Program, the applicant must be an owner-occupant of their residence, the dwelling must consist of one or two separate units, the mortgage must be at least 30 days delinquent, and the applicant-homeowner’s annual household income must not exceed the Area Median Income for their county of residence adjusted for the number of people in their home. For renters to be eligible for financial assistance under the CARES Rent Relief Program, they will need to document at least a 30 percent reduction in annual income since March 1 related to COVID-19, or they must have become unemployed after March 1. If unemployed, they must have filed for Unemployment Compensation. WILKES-BARRE, April 17 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, is calling for the state legislature to stop playing political games and to focus on policies that put the health and safety of Pennsylvanians first. “At a time when people are dying every day, while doctors, nurses and first responders are struggling to get proper PPE, our state legislature’s sole focus should be on supporting our frontline heroes and stopping this pandemic,” Pashinski said. “Instead, the Republican proposals forced through the legislature this week along party-lines would rush Pennsylvanians back to work just when the curve is beginning to flatten.” Pashinski said many of the same legislators voting to send Pennsylvanians to work in potentially dangerous working conditions without proper personal protective equipment cast those votes remotely or while wearing PPE themselves. WILKES-BARRE, April 15 – State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, today requested that the Pennsylvania Department of Health find an alternate location to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township for its drive-through COVID-19 testing site, which DOH has scheduled to open Sunday. “I have the honor of serving the people of the 121 st District, which includes the Wilkes-Barre Township Community,” Pashinski said. “That is why I have requested that the Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency meet with, and address the concerns of, our local officials before making a final determination on the location of their testing site. It is imperative that I emphasize the concerns of Wilkes-Barre Township’s officials and residents about the possibility of those being tested possibly having access to many commercial sites within a half mile of the arena.
