HARRISBURG, July 7 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, released the following statement Thursday regarding the state budget. “I’m grateful my colleagues on both sides of the aisle were able to meet on common ground to get this budget passed. There is a lot to unpack in Senate Bill 1100, including the $850 million more in the budget for K-12 basic education funding, $27 million of which was earmarked for Montgomery County Schools. “The commonwealth’s crucial Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program saw an increase in funding upward of $140 million. This is much-needed funding for individuals on fixed incomes. As it stands today, this funding will provide current participants with another one-time check that is equal to 70% of what they receive in this year’s rebate. “The budget also reduced Pennsylvania’s Corporate Net Income Tax rate while closing a few loopholes, expands incentives for businesses to invest in research and development and biotech. It also increases our funding commitment to entrepreneurship through the Ben Franklin Technology Partners. We even increased the film industry tax credit. “We have increased funding in housing affordability and rehabilitation; school safety, security and mental health; public safety and violence prevention; and so much more. “In total, the budget aims to make a large impact across the commonwealth and right here Read more

CHELTENHAM, April 22 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, today announced two Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants worth $2.5 million have been secured for Beth Sholom Synagogue and Salus University. “I am pleased to see this RACP funding invested into our community,” Nelson said. “The money will be used to help preserve an iconic landmark, the Beth Sholom Synagogue. It will also allow Salus University to modernize and better serve its students. I want to thank Governor Tom Wolf and all the hard-working people who helped secure this funding.” $2 million was awarded to the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation in Cheltenham Township. The funding will be used to repair and restore the synagogue’s dome. The building was designed by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is a National Historic Landmark. Special attention will be paid to both exterior and interior elements, including the landscaping. “As a National Historic Landmark, I am pleased to see the commonwealth invest this funding into our synagogue,” said Herb Sachs, immediate past president of the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation. “Our goal is to ensure the synagogue can still be used as a place of worship and future generations can continue to appreciate the architectural designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. HARRISBURG, April 14 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, announced today three organizations in the 154 th Legislative District will receive Nonprofit Security Grants. The grant program funds security enhancement projects for churches, synagogues and other nonprofit organizations serving diverse communities across the commonwealth. The local recipients include: Congregation Adath Jeshurun: $25,000. Yeshivas Ohr Hachaim (DBA Mesivta Yesodei Yisroel): $75,000. Reconstructing Judaism: $24,967. “ “I am grateful that I can bring these much-needed resources back to our district, but I wish it wasn’t necessary,” Nelson said. “It is unconscionable to me that we must take these extraordinary steps to ensure all people can feel safe where they worship .” The grants, administered through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency , may be used for the following: Safety and security planning. Purchase of safety and security equipment. Purchase of security-related technology including, but not limited to, metal detectors, protective lighting, surveillance equipment, special emergency communications equipment, electronic locksets, deadbolts, trauma kits, and theft-control devices. ELKINS PARK, Feb. 8 – Joined by community leaders, state Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, wrote to Gov. Tom Wolf supporting a grant application submitted by Beth Sholom Synagogue. The letter followed a previous message sent by Nelson in October regarding the funding. Beth Sholom applied for a grant for structural repairs through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program in 2021. “Beth Sholom has been part of the Elkins Park community since 1951,” Nelson said. “Having been a beautiful centerpiece for decades and designated as a National Historic Landmark, it is paramount that we address the physical structure's needs so that the congregation can continue their amazing outreach to the members of the community in need.” Nelson said the synagogue prominently features a historic and distinctive roof that is in desperate need of extensive repairs. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Feb. 1 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, announced grants to assist local schools and improve local agriculture infrastructure. The Springfield Township School District will receive two grants of $12,713 each to go toward the purchase of new refrigerated cases to hold food and drink items in student cafeterias. The funding is part of package of competitive grants awarded to 44 elementary, middle and high schools through a program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. “Lunch is one of the most important times of the day for our students,” Nelson said. “These merchandisers will help provide students with easily accessible food and drink options to enjoy while helping streamline the work of our busy and dedicated cafeteria staff.” Funding for the PDE program is made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and grants are awarded to schools participating in the National School Lunch Program. Schools can use the funding to purchase or upgrade equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves and dishwashers. Additionally, Nelson announced a $50,000 grant has been awarded to LifeLeaf Organic Farms and FarmerJawn Agriculture to build a nano-farm, a corner store and a kitchen/market to serve the local community.
