Takac joins State College YMCA and Centre County Pearls for third annual Back-to-School Drive

STATE COLLEGE, June 11 – State Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, said he is excited to partner with the State College YMCA and Centre County Pearls for the third annual Back- to-School drive.
Takac and community leaders invite Centre County neighbors and local organizations to donate new school supplies now through Aug. 4 to help support local children and families.
Donations can be dropped off at Takac’s District Office at 216 W. Hamilton Ave., between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 4, or the State College YMCA at 677 W. Whitehall Rd., Monday through Friday between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The Back-to-School Drive will conclude with the annual August Cookout and Supply Distribution open to Centre County kids and families from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 at the State College YMCA.
The following supplies will be accepted and must be new:
- Backpacks.
- Pens, pencils and erasers.
- Highlighters.
- Coloring tools.
- Pencil sharpeners.
- Student scissors.
- Spiral notebooks.
- Composition books.
- 1.5” 3-ring binders.
- Post-it notes.
- Glue sticks.
“This school supply drive, distribution and cookout event has become one of our favorite events of the year,” said Mary Elliott, district events coordinator for Takac. “By partnering with great organizations like the State College YMCA and Centre County Pearls, we’re able to expand our network to get kids the school supplies they need for success in their new school year.
“The generosity of our community is always so inspiring, and we’re so grateful to all the folks who can donate new school supplies.”
