Rep. Paul Takac statement on the looming, avoidable strike at Mount Nittany Medical Center and its impact on our community

STATE COLLEGE, July 24 – State Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, today released the following statement in response to an avoidable strike at Mount Nittany Medical Center, urging leadership to return to the bargaining table with the authority to reach a fair, equitable agreement with SEIU.

“Much valuable time has passed, and we now stand on the threshold of a strike that could be avoided and that will harm not only those directly involved, but our entire community.

“However, there is still time to act and avert a potential strike. I urge the Mount Nittany Medical Center administration and negotiations team to return to the bargaining table with both the authority and commitment to resolve this impasse, and to stay as long as necessary in order to reach a fair and equitable agreement with the SEIU team.

“At a time of significant profits and major investments in physical infrastructure and facilities, Mount Nittany Medical Center must also make an investment in the people who make those profits and that success happen. All of its workers deserve a fair share of the rewards in return for their dedication, labor and service. The standard of living and personal safety of frontline healthcare and support employees should never be sacrificed to safeguard corporate and executive profits.”
