Takac announces over $1.18M in Green Light-Go grants

STATE COLLEGE, Aug. 4 – State Rep State Rep. Paul Takac, D-Centre, announced today that State College Borough and College Township have been awarded more than $1.18 million in Green Light-Go funding to improve traffic signal equipment and communications along several key corridors in the Centre Region.
“Our community depends on a transportation system that keeps folks moving safely and efficiently,” Takac said. “These targeted improvements will help relieve congestion, especially during high volume events; improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists at key intersections; and support better mobility and traffic flow throughout the Centre Region. State College Borough will receive $997,755 to extend the communication network between four adjacent signals and upgrade detection at 10 intersections, including locations along University Drive, North Atherton Street, South Atherton Street, East Branch Road, West College Avenue, and additional approaches serving downtown, nearby neighborhoods, and the Penn State University Park campus.
College Township has been awarded $190,175 for detection upgrades at the intersection of Shiloh Road and Dreibelbis Street. These projects advance Pennsylvania’s Long Range Transportation Plan by enhancing safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists; improving mobility for residents, businesses, and visitors; and strengthening the performance of the Commonwealth’s transportation assets throughout the Centre Region.
Green Light-Go grants are provided on a reimbursement basis to municipalities for improvements that enhance the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. Projects will be funded through the fiscal year 2026–27 appropriation. Eligible improvements include installing LED technology, traffic signal retiming, developing special-event traffic plans, monitoring signal performance, and upgrading signals to the latest technologies.
