Nearly all of the school districts I represent in Centre County are underfunded, creating serious challenges for students, teachers and administrators, and we are not alone. In fact, more than 80% of all school districts in Pennsylvania are underfunded, according to an analysis published by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Read more
For far too long, public school funding has relied too heavily on local property taxes and taxpayers. Yet many of those taxpayers and communities, especially in rural areas, are already struggling, and putting that financial burden on them is not only unfair and unsustainable, but unconstitutional. In the first round of conditional awards, TA Operating LLC, located at 875 N. Eagle Valley Road along Exit 158 of Interstate 80 in Milesburg, will receive more than $1 million in funding for planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining EV charging stations. FirstEnergy (West Penn Power) will serve as the electric utility partner for the EV charging sites. Read more

Pa. state Rep. Paul Takac joined Executive Dir. David Masur to present Penn Environment’s report: Electric Vehicles Save Money for Government Fleets. The report outlines the environmental benefits and cost savings of replacing the state’s fleet of gasoline and diesel light-duty vehicles with electric vehicles. Takac says with an estimated $360 million savings to taxpayers in the first 10 years, an electric fleet is a no-brainer. Read more

“The budget increases funding for public education by $714 million, including more than $67.6 million in Basic Education and Special Education funding for schools that serve students in the 82nd Legislative District, an increase of over $5.1 million or 8.1%,” Takac said. “With these historic investments, we are beginning to address the inequities in Pennsylvania’s school funding system, which the Commonwealth Court recently declared unconstitutional. This funding helps public schools without raising property taxes and placing the burden on local residents. However, we must continue to work to meet our constitutional obligation to fairly and fully fund our public schools so that every child has the opportunity to succeed.” Read more
