New Grant Funding for Hampton Township School District
I’m pleased to announce that Hampton Township School District will be receiving a $20,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to support students interested in careers as special education teachers.
Honoring our Fallen Heroes – and other District Updates
I was honored to participate in the 80th Annual Avonworth Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration.
Thank you to Avonworth American Legion Post 866 for organizing this important remembrance, the leaders and first responders of the Avonworth community for supporting this event, and all our neighbors for remembering the service of those who gave “the last full measure of devotion” for our nation.
I also attended the McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority’s Salute to Service ceremony as part of McCandless’s 175th anniversary. It was a great way to recognize those who died defending our nation, members of the armed forces, and our first responders. All of us in the community thank them for their service.
Our local businesses keep our community moving, and I am always looking for ways to support the work they do. I took part in the PA Chamber Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit, where I had the opportunity to discuss the use of AI in Healthcare and how state policy, including my bill HB 1925, should regulate this technology.
Kennywood is a staple of our region’s economy, especially as summer approaches. It was great to join my legislative colleagues to learn how the amusement park plans to move forward.
Veena and I joined Senator Lindsey Williams at this season’s opening of the Ingomar North Recreation & Swim Club in McCandless. I partnered with Sen. Williams to bring state funds to repair the pool and appreciated the opportunity to support this important part of our community.
Celebrating our Local Students
Several students from across our community have had major accomplishments in athletics and other extracurricular activities.
I had the chance to present House Citations to students from Avonworth who recently excelled in swimming at the WPIAL and PIAA Championships and who performed with the PMEA All-State Band.
The North Allegheny Boys’ Volleyball team secured their 24th overall WPIAL Championship title. They will compete at home in the first round of the PIAA Championship against Conestoga Valley/Central York on June 2.
Eden Christian Academy won its first WPIAL 1A Baseball Championship title in school history, winning 5-1 over Greensburg Central Catholic.
The Gene Kelly Awards recognize excellence in high school musical theater, and Avonworth senior Paxon Masters won the Outstanding Actor award for his titular performance in The Phantom of the Opera.
Congratulations to all of our students on your outstanding accomplishments!
Walk to End Bladder Cancer this Weekend
This Saturday, May 30, will mark the annual Pittsburgh Walk to End Bladder Cancer at North Park. You can register here to help raise awareness of and support the effort to end this surprisingly common and deadly form of cancer.
Park Ranger for a Day
Visit PA has launched “PA Ranger for a Day,” which gives one lucky winner the opportunity to experience Pennsylvania’s state parks through the eyes of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources staff who keep them running.
Running through June 12, residents and visitors alike can enter for the chance to win a full-day, DCNR staff-led experience at one of the Commonwealth’s most stunning state parks. You can learn more about our state parks and enter the sweepstake here.
Finally, please remember that my talented staff can help you with a variety of state-related matters – from filing an application for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to obtaining a disability placard or senior bus pass, just to name a few. Contact us or stop by to see how we can help!
