E-Blast: Session next week, Blood Drive recap, & more!

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

We're getting back to session next week! I am excited to get back to work with all of my colleagues, though these next few weeks will be difficult. We will be starting session without Rep. Matthew Gergely who passed away last week. Emotionally, it will be a tough week for all of us in the House.

With the absence, the House is now tied at 101 seats for both sides. Now, we need cooperation and bipartisanship so that we can continue doing our jobs to bring power to the people of Pennsylvania.

As I prepare to get back to work in Harrisburg, I am excited to announce that I have been appointed by Speaker McClinton to the following committees:

  • Appropriations
  • Children & Youth
  • Communications & Technology
  • Education
  • Transportation

I look forward to reuniting with my colleagues in the same committees from last session, along with getting a new assignment with the Communications & Technology Committee!

Of course, I am also ready to bring a new wave energy to the many caucuses I am a member of, especially the Women's Health Caucus and the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus!

Thank you for subscribing to my informational weekly e-blasts. Read on to learn more about upcoming events! Please be sure to share the information with your neighbors and friends to stay informed and sign up for our weekly E-blast at pahouse.com/Curry/emailsignup

MLK Celebration at DCCC

I was able to attend a great evening celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Delaware County Community College with the Center of Equity and Social Justice. Dr. Chanelle N. Rose was the Keynote Speaker who talked about her book The Struggle for Black Freedom in Miami Civil Rights and America’s Tourist Paradise.

NAACP Event

I was honored to deliver the keynote speech at the NAACP swearing-in ceremony in Doylestown, in Bucks County on Tuesday evening. Building on Legacy, Leading with Purpose: Advancing Equity, Visibility and Building Bridges for All, I connected with newly sworn-in President of the Bucks County NAACP Adrienne King, Past President Karen Downer, and state Senator Steve Santarsiero.

Community Blood Drive

Thank you to the constituents of the 164th PA House Legislative District and the 26th Senatorial District Senator Tim Kearney. The gift of giving life through blood donation is necessary but so critical at this time of year. We're proud to report that we collected 17 pints of blood, which is enough to help 51 patients! For more information, if you want to donate, please visit Redcross.org. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give my office a call 610-259-7016!

PLBC MLK Breakfast

Lastly, I was honored to attend the MLK Breakfast with the Philadelphia Barristers with the PA Legislative Black Caucus to celebrate my former colleague and mentor Representative Donna Bullock as she received a prestigious award around her work in the community over the last two decades.

LIHEAP Now Open!

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is still accepting applications for the 2024-25 season. LIHEAP is a federally funded program administered by DHS that helps qualified Pennsylvanians pay their home heating bills during the winter months. Assistance is available for both renters and homeowners. The LIHEAP application period for cash and crisis grants is open until April 4, 2025.

LIHEAP assistance is available in the form of cash or crisis grants which are distributed directly to a household’s utility company or home heating fuel provider. Individuals or households do not have to repay assistance. The minimum LIHEAP cash grant is $200, and the maximum cash grant is $1,000. Individuals and households may receive one cash grant per LIHEAP season.

Households must apply for LIHEAP each year, so if an individual was approved or denied previously, DHS encourages them to apply again for the 2024-25 season. Start your application through the link here
