SPRING SHREDDING EVENT

Shedding documents doesn’t just declutter—it also protects you from identity theft! Join me on April 18 at Burkett Sports Complex for a free shredding event, where personal documents will be safely destroyed on-site.

If you have any unused or expired medications, the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office Project D.U.M.P. will be at this event to collect them for proper disposal.

I hope to see you there!

PA HOUSE PASSES BILL TO RAISE MINIMUM WAGE

a placeholder image for you to replace

Last week, the House was in session. I was happy to vote “yes” on raising the minimum wage. The minimum wage has remained at $7.25 per hour for far too long, while other states have raised their wages to keep pace with rising costs.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. It’s well past time for Pennsylvanians to earn a living wage!

In addition to the minimum wage vote last week, we welcomed two new representatives to the PA House: Rep. Jen Mazzocco from Allegheny County and Rep. Ana Tiburcio from Lehigh County. We now have the most women lawmakers in the history of the state House!

We also supported our veterans by expanding property tax relief for disabled veterans (HB 1257) and enhancing trauma-informed care for those who have experienced military sexual trauma (HB 2024).

We protected consumers by requiring insurers to inform homeowner’s insurance buyers when policies don’t cover flood loss (HB 1718).

We also improved railroad safety by prohibiting trains from blocking crossings in ways that delay emergency responders, limiting train length, increasing the number of workers and the use of safety monitoring systems, and strengthening oversight of hazardous materials transported (HB 1191).

TROUT SEASON BEGINS

As Chair of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, I want to remind everyone that trout season begins very soon!

March 28 was the annual Statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day, a day set aside for young anglers before the season starts to try their hand at fishing.

Trout Season Opening Day is this Saturday, April 4, so mark your calendars!

In all, Pennsylvania will stock over 3.2 million adult trout in 684 streams and 130 lakes throughout 2026. You can find the trout stocking schedule online here. And make sure you’re ready for trout season by getting your fishing license at HuntFish.PA.gov

Enjoy PA’s fishing season in the great outdoors!
