MAKE A PLAN TO VOTE

The Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, May 19, which is why now is the perfect time to make a plan to vote!

Tomorrow, May 12, is the last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot. Apply here.

With about a week until Primary Election Day, it’s best to complete your ballot and deliver it to a ballot return site or the Allegheny County Office Building to ensure that your vote is counted! Ballots must be received by the county election office before 8 p.m. on Election Day.

If you are voting in person on Tuesday, May 19, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Find your polling place here.

DELIVERING FOR YOU AT THE CAPITOL

My House colleagues and I recently passed important bills that would help our neighbors and improve communities:

  • Protecting kids — New requirements for mandated reporters to flag suspected child sexual abuse materials, including AI-generated content (HB 2474), and stronger tools to prosecute internet crimes against children (HB 1098).
  • Supporting students — A new state commission would be established that will develop a plan to provide vision exams and glasses at little or no cost for students who need them (HB 1077).
  • Helping renters — Rental application fees would be capped, which would cut costs for tenants across the state (HB 558).

These bills now head to the state Senate for consideration.

AROUND THE CAPITOL

While in Harrisburg for session last week, it was a pleasure to meet with my colleagues from Erie and representatives from the Erie Port Authority to discuss issues around abandoned boats.

This is an issue that’s important to me as you might remember, my legislation to help communities address abandoned boats was signed into law as Act 28 of 2025, which went into effect this year.

One of my favorite days of the Legislative Session year is when the students from Sto-Rox High School visit me to advocate for smoking and vaping cessation. They promote good lung health through programs and one-on-one conversation with fellow students throughout the district.

These are good kids doing great things!

I also met with Pa. Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding during “May is Beef Month” at the state Capitol, which recognizes the hardworking farmers who power our state’s growing beef industry.
