PA House Welcomes New Legislators Mazzocco and Tiburcio

HARRISBURG, March 23 – Today the Pennsylvania House of Representatives welcomed two new lawmakers, Rep. Jen Mazzocco, D-Allegheny, and Rep. Ana Tiburcio, D-Lehigh.

Mazzocco, who represents the 42nd District that includes Baldwin, Mount Lebanon, Castle Shannon, Dormont and portions of Upper St. Clair in Allegheny County, and Tiburcio, who represents the 22nd District including parts of Allentown and Salisbury in Lehigh County, were elected in a special election in February. Dauphin County Common Pleas Judge La Tasha C. Williams administered their oath at a ceremony at the state Capitol.

“New members always bring fresh ideas and energy to the state House,” Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware said. “Representatives Tiburcio and Mazzocco are proven leaders who will draw on their years of experience to inform their work and help them improve the lives of their neighbors. I look forward to seeing their contributions.”

McClinton said with the addition of Mazzocco and Tiburcio, the state House now has 65 women serving in its ranks, a new milestone for the nearly 350-year-old legislative body. McClinton noted that it is a wonderful way to recognize Women’s History Month.

McClinton added that the new representatives are joining the state House at a busy time, as the chamber returns to legislative session following budget hearings held by the House Appropriations Committee.

This week the House has an aggressive legislative calendar to consider bills to help working families and protect consumers.

With the addition of Mazzocco and Tiburcio, the state House currently has 201 members seated. The winners of two special elections held on March 17 will be sworn in in April.
