Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
|
|
This Tuesday is Primary Election Day! If you plan to vote in person, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 19. If you’re not sure where to go to vote, you can look up your polling place here.
If you requested a mail-in ballot and have not already mailed it back, you’ll want to return it either at a secure ballot drop box or at an in-person drop off location. In our district, convenient drop box locations include:
- Upper Darby Municipal Building, 100 Garrett Road, Upper Darby, PA 19082, Available 24/7
- Lansdowne Fire Station, 26 N. Highland Avenue, PA 19050, Open daily 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m.
You can find other Delaware County drop-off locations and their hours here.
Remember: your mail-in ballot must be received by 8:00 p.m. on May 19 to be counted—that’s why mailing it through USPS now may be too late. Dropping it off will be the best way to ensure your mail-in vote is counted.

We’re closed on Tuesday, May 19
|
We’ll reopen Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. Happy voting!

Delivering for You at the Capitol
|
Last week, my House colleagues and I passed important bills that will help our neighbors and improve communities:
- We protected kids by requiring mandated reporters to report suspected child sexual abuse materials or AI child sexual abuse materials (HB 2474) and improved prosecution of internet crimes against children (HB 1098).
- We helped kids by setting up a new state commission that will develop a plan to provide vision exams and glasses at little or no cost for all students who need them (HB 1077).
- We cut costs for tenants by capping rental application fees (HB 558).
- We voted to assess the Keystone Exams and whether alternative exams could be an option for schools (HB1752).

Distracted driving can soon draw fines in PA
|
Drivers take note: Beginning June 6, you can be cited for driving while using a hand-held device in Pennsylvania, even while stopped at a red light or in a traffic jam. “Paul Miller’s Law” went into effect last year, but during the first year, police could only issue warnings. June 6 marks the date when drivers convicted of distracted driving will be subject to a $50 fine. There are exceptions for contacting emergency officials and using hands-free technology.
Signed by Gov. Shapiro in 2024, “Paul Miller’s Law” was named for a 21-year-old Scranton man who was killed in a 2010 crash involving a truck driver who was using a cell phone.

Maternity Care Coalition’s Celebrating Mothers Brunch
|
Last weekend, I attended the Maternity Care Coalition’s annual Celebrating Mothers Brunch in Philadelphia. This is a fantastic annual fundraiser supporting MCC’s continued efforts to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women and parenting families.
This year’s event focused on the resilience of families everywhere and the impact parents can have when they demand positive change. It was hosted by 6abc’s Tamala Edwards and honored the vital work of Sara M. Lomax, CEO of WURD Radio, Pennsylvania’s only African American–owned talk radio station, and Dr. Arline T. Geronimus, professor of Health Behavior and Health Education and research professor at the University of Michigan.

PA Breast Cancer Coalition’s Traveling Photo Exhibit
|
On Tuesday, I celebrated PABCC’s traveling photo exhibit by speaking at their event at the Haverford Township Free Library. The photo exhibit captures the journeys of Pennsylvania women who have experienced breast cancer.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition has been a steadfast partner in developing and pushing through bills that work to make breast cancer outcomes better. With their support and the support of the Komen Foundation and the PA Senate, we got Senate Bill 88 - a companion to my House Bill 433 - signed into law late last year, which requires all insurance plans in PA to cover diagnostic breast exams after a standard screening mammogram shows an abnormality.
It was an honor to speak at this event and to engage with the exhibit firsthand. If you’re not able to make it to the Haverford Library before it leaves on Tuesday, May 19, click here to see where it heads to next.
