Ensuring seniors stay eligible for prescription assistance

Dear Neighbor,

December has arrived, and with it, the holiday season is in full swing. I wanted to take a moment to share some updates on what’s been happening in Harrisburg and right here at home in the 161st District.

I’m happy to report that Act 49, which began as House Bill 923, was recently signed into law. Currently, more than 250,000 older Pennsylvanians participate in the PACE and PACENET prescription drug assistance programs for seniors. Because eligibility is based on income, some seniors risk losing coverage after receiving Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLA). Act 49 ensures that seniors can remain eligible for the PACE and PACENET programs despite these COLAs through December 31, 2027, providing continued access to affordable medications.

To apply for PACE and PACENET visit HERE or you can reach out to my office for assistance.

Understanding Changes in Your Electric Bill

Additionally, effective December 1, energy supply prices adjusted, which may lead to higher electric bills. As we head into the winter months and energy usage increases, now is a good time to prepare. Simple steps such as sealing drafts, replacing furnace filters can help weatherize your home, and exploring other energy-saving measures can help manage costs.

If you’re concerned about paying your electric bill, you can contact PECO to learn more about assistance programs or payment plan options. You can also reach out to my office for help determining if you qualify for LIHEAP or a crisis grant. The LIHEAP application opened on December 3, and my office can assist you with submitting your application to the County Assistance Office and answering any questions you may have along the way.

Policy Tour with Sheetmetal Workers Local 19

On Monday, I joined the PA House Policy Committee, along with members of the Philadelphia and Southeast Delegations, for a tour and roundtable discussion at the Sheetmetal Workers Union Local 19 training center in Philadelphia. We explored the impressive facility and engaged in productive conversations about how the legislature can better support, train, and invest in Pennsylvania’s workforce.

Important Programs and Services

Unclaimed Property

Did you know that 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property, with the average claim totaling over $1,000? These funds often come from forgotten bank accounts, security deposits, or uncashed checks.

My office is happy to help you search for unclaimed property and assist with generating claims and submitting the necessary paperwork to the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury.

Thanks to the new PA Money Match program, certain unclaimed property valued up to $500 is now returned automatically. That means no searching, no paperwork, and no forms—eligible funds are simply sent back to their rightful owners.

Please be cautious if you receive a letter from a company offering to help recover your unclaimed property. These companies often charge a finder’s fee and take a portion of your money. Our office provides this service for free, so if you’ve received one of these letters or have any questions, I encourage you to call my office—we’re here to help.

If you want to check to see if you have any unclaimed property in Pennsylvania visit: https://www.patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property/
