I’m happy to report that HB 1964, legislation I am proud to co-sponsor, was reported out of the House Consumer Protection, Technology, and Utilities Committee on Monday. This bill is an important step toward protecting water and sewer ratepayers across Pennsylvania by repealing Act 12, which has led to increased costs for many communities. We drafted this bill in an attempt to protect systems like the Chester Water Authority and keep them in public hands. HB 1964 provides for a moratorium on the privatization of public water and wastewater systems and stops public companies from driving up the valuation and then passing those costs onto ratepayers.
This bill is expected to be up for a vote in the House chamber this Wednesday. I look forward to voting yes so we can continue working toward fair, affordable, and accountable water services for residents across the Commonwealth.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will be holding hearings to gather public input on a proposed merger involving American Water Works and Essential Utilities, the parent company of Aqua America and Peoples Natural Gas.
These hearings come at a critical time, as many communities across Pennsylvania have experienced rising water rates in recent years, often tied to acquisitions made possible under Act 12.
That’s why it’s so important that we advance legislation like HB 1964, which would repeal Act 12 and help protect ratepayers from unfair increases while ensuring greater accountability and local control of our water systems.
I encourage anyone interested to take part and make their voice heard.

Sign the Petition to Raise the Wage
|
Too many Pennsylvanians are struggling with the rising cost of living, as everyday essentials continue to become more expensive while our minimum wage has not kept pace.
Today the House voted on HB 2189, which would increase Pennsylvania’s minimum wage to $15 by January 1, 2029. Right now, nearly 250,000 people in Pennsylvania are either earning or nearly earning the minimum wage, bringing home between $7.50 to $12 per hour. At a time when food, energy and housing costs are through the roof, that is not enough to support yourself. The bill passed the House by a vote of 104 - 95, and now goes to the Senate for consideration.
If you believe Pennsylvania workers deserve a living wage, you can add your name to the petition and be part of the effort to demand action for working families across our Commonwealth.

Partnering to support students

Today in Harrisburg, I had the pleasure of meeting with Neumann University President Dr. Chris Domes and Eastern University President Ronald Matthews and Vice President Michael Fedor, who were advocating on behalf of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP).
AICUP institutions play an important role in expanding access to higher education, and I’m proud that 922 students from our district are currently enrolled at these schools. It was a great opportunity to discuss how we can continue supporting students and strengthening these partnerships.
