State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, recently presented a citation to Team Rubicon, a disaster response team comprising military veterans and first responders, for their selfless volunteer work following last summer’s severe thunderstorms that damaged multiple areas in Brookhaven Borough. “Team Rubicon provided needed expertise and compassion when they assisted Brookhaven Borough and all of Delaware County following the severe storms last summer,” Krueger-Braneky said. “Their commitment in time, effort and money went a long way in helping our area recover from the storms, and their dedication to helping those in crisis around the world should be recognized and admired.” Read more

(Feb 15, 2016)

Forms for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program for the 2015 tax year are available at my district office – and my staff is ready to help you file yours for free ! The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded and the maximum standard rebate is $650. Claimants must reapply for rebates every year because they are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid each year. Spouses, personal representatives or estates may file rebate claims on behalf of deceased claimants who lived at least one day in 2015 and meet all other eligibility criteria. The oft-extended deadline to apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2015 is June 30, 2016, and the rebates normally are distributed by the Deparment of Revenue beginning July 1. So, the sooner you file, the sooner you will receive your money. Read more

Supreme Court decision must not stop Pennsylvania’s progress toward climate reductions

(Feb 10, 2016)

Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling placing a temporary stay on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan, state Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, encouraged state officials to continue toward the goal of reduced carbon emissions. “Though the Supreme Court may have temporarily delayed the Clean Power Plan, there is no reason that Pennsylvania cannot continue to plan and work toward becoming a leader in responding to climate change,” Krueger-Braneky said. “Power plants are America’s largest source of greenhouse gases, and especially in Pennsylvania where coal has dominated the energy sector in vast portions of our state, there is no reason to delay instituting strategies that rely more on environmentally responsible energy sources. Our health and the health of our children depend on it.” Read more

Krueger-Braneky: It’s time to put people before politics

(Feb 09, 2016)

Following Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2016-17 budget address at the Capitol today, state Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, issued the following statement calling on legislators to put people before politics: “Pennsylvania is currently facing a crisis that is, sadly, no fault of anybody but ideologues in the state legislature who would rather put politics before their job of serving the people and simply say no to any and all compromise. This mindset has put our state on the path to a structural deficit that looks to approach $2.5 billion, buoyed by years of poor budgeting and the all-too-common smoke-and-mirrors tactics we saw under the previous administration. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, issued the following statement following the passage of H.B. 1327, known as the Fiscal Code bill: “This Fiscal Code represents exactly what so many Pennsylvanians have come to resent about politics. It is full of $12 million in handouts to gas companies while Pennsylvanians across the state continue to ask for a severance tax and wonder why at a time when we do not have a budget and our schools need increased funding, we’re giving away money to the very people they have asked us to fairly tax. (Jan 05, 2016)

Praising President Barack Obama for his executive actions to curb gun violence, state Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, said she hopes Pennsylvania will follow suit and address the lingering issues surrounding firearm background checks by passing House Bill 1010. "President Obama acted admirably today by refusing to allow a gridlocked Congress currently held hostage by the National Rifle Association to continue stonewalling attempts at commonsense firearm legislation," Krueger-Braneky said. "Americans from every state, especially Pennsylvania, are tired of expecting politicians to keep their families safe, only to watch time and time again as they vote with the NRA. This mindless abdication of duty to the public's safety has to end." Read more
