HARRISBURG, Oct. 26 – State Reps. Leanne Krueger and John Lawrence were joined by local activists and union representatives at a news conference Tuesday at the state Capitol, where they discussed legislation to protect the customers of municipal and authority-owned water or wastewater systems in the acquisition process. Krueger, D-Delaware, and Lawrence, R-Chester/Lancaster, have introduced legislation ( H.B. 1936 ) to amend Section 1329 of the Public Utilities Law to prohibit the use of that section for the sale of municipal or authority-owned water or wastewater systems to private companies using the valuation procedure outlined there unless the system is in financial and/or operational distress. Chester Water Authority is a financially stable utility being pursued by Aqua Pennsylvania for acquisition. “Sales through Section 1329 always drive up rates for customers, so those sales should be limited to distressed systems that truly need assistance,” said Krueger. “Chester Water Authority is not in financial or operational distress. If passed, this bill would prevent Aqua from marking up an offer price to take over CWA and passing those costs on to ratepayers. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, will host two virtual Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight (formerly APPRISE) events in coordination with Delaware County MEDI counselors. The first event is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18 and will address upcoming Medicare changes in 2022 for those already on Medicare and those signing up soon. The second, Medicare 101, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22. This virtual event is for those approaching the age of 65 or who plan to enroll in Medicare soon. “Signing up for Medicare can be an overwhelming task,” Krueger said. “I’m happy to host these events with the help of Delaware County MEDI counselors to make the process as smooth as possible.” The events will be held over Zoom, and registration is required. FOLSOM, Oct. 7 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger and state Sen. John Kane will honor veterans for their service with an appreciation lunch on Oct. 21. The lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Hall, Post 926, 3220 Concord Road, Aston. Veterans in the 161 st Legislative District are invited, along with a family member, to enjoy lunch and receive information on state-related programs and services available for veterans. The Pennsylvania Mobile Veterans Van will be there to help veterans connect with needed benefits. “We are so grateful for everything veterans have sacrificed on our behalf. This lunch is a way we can show our appreciation as well as ensure that veterans are able to access the services and benefits to which they are entitled,” said Krueger, D-Delaware.
