Krueger congratulates Nether Providence on recent state awards

HARRISBURG, Sept. 17 – Two Nether Providence initiatives received crucial state funding today thanks to an investment by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, announced state Rep. Leanne Krueger, who helped advocate for the grants. The CFA awarded Nether Providence Township a $277,359 grant to control sediment at Sapovits Park, as well as improve the park with a rain garden to help with runoff. It also awarded the Nether Providence Athletic Association a $133,814 grant under its Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to install LED lighting and two sets of bleachers at the Houston Park baseball field. “Thanks to excellent stewardship on behalf of our community leaders, these projects bring us a quality to life that is truly special – and address pressing environmental and recreational needs in the community,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. The CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages. Read more

 

Krueger invites community to Pet Expo September 7

FOLSOM, Aug. 23 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger invites community members to a Pet Expo, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Folsom Fire Co., 411 Sutton Ave. Krueger is co-hosting the event with state Sen. Tim Kearney. The event will feature pet resources, including information on Victoria’s Law and other animal-related legislation, pet-related vendors, light refreshments, a low-cost vaccine clinic and more. A pet costume parade will be held at noon. The low-cost vaccine clinic will be offered by Providence Animal Center on a first-come basis. Dogs must be leashed. The clinic is not recommended for cats for their safety, since the clinic is outdoors. The clinic will offer one-year shots including Dewormer, Distemper, Bordetella, Rabies, Lepto, Canine Flu and Lyme, as well as microchips. Pets are welcome but must be leashed. Krueger announces $1M in redevelopment money for regional projects

HARRISBURG, Aug. 1 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger today announced two $500,000 state grants for development projects in Aston and Nether Providence townships. The money comes from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget and funds economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects across Pennsylvania. Aston Township will use the money to build a new much-needed public works facility in the municipality. Little demolition is required to prepare the site for construction, but completion of the project will include general site clearing, grading, and development of appropriate stormwater provisions, including the construction of an underground basin and a 300-square-foot retaining wall. The new 19,587-square-foot public works facility will include an administrative office, a truck shop, an equipment storage building, and a new salt barn to better meet the municipality's needs. “The new facility will greatly improve trash collection, recycling, parks services, storm sewers and road maintenance, leaf collection, and snow removal – often overlooked services, but vital for Aston residents,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “The award will help offset local taxes, which is goal of mine and the administration.” The other award was granted for Nether Providence Township’s Summit Site redevelopment. Krueger congratulates VFW Post 928 for Fresh Paint Days grant

FOLSOM, July 26 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger congratulated the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 928 in Folsom on being awarded a grant through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s 2019 Fresh Paint Days Pennsylvania program. The program provides community groups with paint and painting supplies to transform community structures. In September, the VFW Post 928 will be able to renew its building using up to 20 gallons of exterior paint and a gift card for painting supplies. “The VFW serves our community in many ways, supporting military members and veterans and doing other outreach work,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “It’s important to support organizations that do good in our community, so I’m thrilled to see the VFW awarded this grant to give the building a fresh update.” More information about the Fresh Paint Days program is available here . Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, today issued a statement following news reports that Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) would be closing its South Philadelphia refinery. “Today we learned that despite the hundreds of employees seeking to return to work after last week’s fire at PES, the company’s executives have decided to shutter the refinery,” she said. “After years of laying off employees, and maximizing profits for private equity and out-of-state corporations, PES’ decision to close its South Philadelphia refinery is especially stinging to the workers and their families. “Last week’s fire and explosion was frightening for many of us, but especially for the workers who were on site at the time and worked hard to mitigate the damage and save lives. Wallingford Elementary kids help environment, lead push against plastic straws

Krueger announces $99,788 grant for Rose Valley Centennial Foundation

Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, today announced that the Rose Valley Centennial Foundation would receive a $99,788 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Keystone Construction grant program. “I am so pleased to see our grant approved so that we can truly realize the potential of the Thunderbird Lodge,” Krueger said. “Rose Valley and the Thunderbird Lodge have a great historical and architectural significance in our community. Many plans have been in the works at the Rose Valley Centennial Foundation, but funding is never easy to get. Unclaimed property help from Krueger’s office in June

FOLSOM, May 28 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger is hosting two events in June to help local residents claim property the state may be holding in their name. Help is available in her Folsom office at 701 MacDade Blvd. on Tuesday June 4, and the Brookhaven Municipal Center at 2 Cambridge Road on Wednesday, June 5. Both events are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. “The state Treasurer’s Office currently holds more than $3 billion in unclaimed property that should be returned to its rightful owners,” Krueger said. “I encourage residents to stop by so we can help search and help you claim what’s yours.” Examples of unclaimed property include closed bank accounts, uncashed checks, lost stocks and bonds, contents of safe deposit boxes and expired gift cards or certificates. Krueger’s said those seeking help are encouraged to bring their driver’s license or appropriate identification so her office can notarize their claim should they have one. According to Krueger, the state Treasury is required to advertise the names and addresses of unclaimed property owners each year in general circulation newspapers in the owner’s last known county of residence. Bringing Awareness to Infertility; Shred event tomorrow

Dear Neighbor, I spoke on the House Floor this week about an issue that many families face, but few talk about - infertility. One in eight women have trouble getting pregnant, and I was among them. After my diagnosis of unexplained infertility, I was lucky to be able to undergo treatment and eventually have my son, now a healthy 7-year-old. But all families don’t get that result, and it can be a heartbreaking, stressful and expensive experience. I introduced House Resolution 253, which passed unanimously, to designate Infertility Awareness Week in Pennsylvania and to let women and families struggling with infertility know they are not alone. Fighting to protect public health and safety This week, we fought back on a package of bills that would roll back commonsense regulations to protect our air, our water, worker people and our kids. Four of the bills passed narrowly, despite our efforts, but we were able to defeat one, H.B. 1055, which would have created a “repealer” office that could have demanded the repeal of any regulation or rule that corporate special interests want gone. Krueger calls for infertility awareness in PA

HARRISBURG, May 2 – In a first-of-its-kind resolution approved by the House April 30, state Rep. Leanne Krueger calls for infertility to be recognized as a public health issue in Pennsylvania. The unanimously passed resolution, H.R. 253, officially designates the week of April 21 through April 27 as “Infertility Awareness Week in Pennsylvania,” echoing the National Infertility Association’s national week of awareness. “One in eight couples has trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy,” Krueger said. “Infertility does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or socioeconomic status; it’s an issue that any family can face, and it’s one for which help is available.” Krueger also noted her own difficulty in conceiving her son, who is now 7, describing the days of treatments and tests, many of which can be costly. “I was given the diagnosis of unexplained infertility,” Krueger said. “This diagnosis can be heartbreaking. It means that a doctor has confirmed that someone has a hard time getting pregnant, but they cannot figure out why and they’re not sure how to fix it.” Bringing awareness to infertility as a public health issue, she said, helps individuals and couples struggling to conceive cope and realize they are not alone.
