HARRISBURG, Aug. 1 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger today announced two $500,000 state grants for development projects in Aston and Nether Providence townships. The money comes from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget and funds economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects across Pennsylvania. Aston Township will use the money to build a new much-needed public works facility in the municipality. Little demolition is required to prepare the site for construction, but completion of the project will include general site clearing, grading, and development of appropriate stormwater provisions, including the construction of an underground basin and a 300-square-foot retaining wall. The new 19,587-square-foot public works facility will include an administrative office, a truck shop, an equipment storage building, and a new salt barn to better meet the municipality's needs. “The new facility will greatly improve trash collection, recycling, parks services, storm sewers and road maintenance, leaf collection, and snow removal – often overlooked services, but vital for Aston residents,” said Krueger, D-Delaware. “The award will help offset local taxes, which is goal of mine and the administration.” The other award was granted for Nether Providence Township’s Summit Site redevelopment.
