I know that Groundhog Day is a month away … but as I write this, I am preparing to start the new 2025-26 Legislative Term on Tuesday, following the Speaker’s voting in Washington, and keeping an eye on a winter storm forecast that looks ominous. It’s hard to shake the feeling that I’ve seen all of this before.
The scary part of Groundhog Day (the movie) is the thought of being stuck in a miserable loop, constantly repeating ourselves. Remember, though, that I’m an optimist. If you ask me, the beauty of the Bill Murray classic is the idea that we might be able to repeat this thing until we get it right. We aren’t doomed to do everything the same. Sure, the day might start the same, but we are allowed – if not encouraged – to do things differently until we accomplish what we’re really meant to do.
As I prepare to get sworn in on Tuesday to represent this community for another 24 months, my team and I will be even more clear-eyed in the immense responsibility and possibility that comes with serving our neighbors. I expect this term to be frustrating because I dedicated to making it special (and “special” isn’t easy in this line of work).
Happy New Year!
Thank You!
Let’s Get to WORK!

We understand that some SEPTA riders are experiencing issues with their SEPTA Senior Key Cards being denied, as well as those with SEPTA Access, Reduced Fare, and Student Key Cards. To address this, we’ve proactively contacted SEPTA for the latest updates.
The issue is a coding error that mistakenly assigns an incorrect expiration date to some cards. While this mainly affects riders with the affected Key Cards, we want to reassure you that SEPTA operators and conductors have been instructed to allow riders with these cards to board without issue. Riders using standard Key Cards or other payment methods are not impacted.
If your Key Card is affected, please reach out to our office at (215) 572-5210 or RepNelson@pahouse.net. We are here to assist you and work directly with SEPTA to ensure you receive a replacement.
Additionally, remember that anyone 65 or older is eligible for a free SEPTA Senior Key Card, which allows unlimited travel across all SEPTA transportation in Pennsylvania, whether in Philadelphia or the surrounding areas. Stop by our office at 115 E. Glenside Ave., Suite 8 to apply for your Senior Key Card today.
