Memorial Day Library Closures

All branches will be closed for Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 23, Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25.

Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

All Public Works / Compost Facilities and Libraries will be CLOSED Saturday through Monday.

Permit Parking Enforcement Begins July 1st in Cheltenham

Cheltenham Township offers both Residential and Commercial Parking Permit Programs to improve access to parking within designated areas and support neighborhood residents and local businesses. 

Residential permits provide eligible residents with access to permit parking areas, while commercial permits are available to employees of local merchants seeking a convenient alternative to daily or hourly parking payments.

Cop Camp Registration Now Open!

Cop Camp is back! Cadets ages 8-10 years old are invited to spend three days with CTPD to learn all about police work and build camaraderie with new friends and their local police officers. 

Camp will run June 24th through June 26th. Additional information can be found here and the registration link can be found here

Join Cheltenham Fire Company Camp for an exciting, hands-on fire camp where you'll learn firefighting skills, teamwork, and leadership!

Church Road and Greenwood Avenue Improvement Project

Traffic Alert: Road Closures Through July 2, 2026

PennDOT and Cheltenham Township have announced major road closures and delays related to ongoing construction through July 2, 2026.

24/7 Closures:

  • Westbound Route 73 (Church Rd) between Rices Mill Rd and Curtis Arboretum
  • Southbound Greenwood Ave between Spruce Lane and Barker Rd

E. Waverly Road between S. Keswick Ave and Rices Mill Road closed on February 13, 2026 for replacement of Montgomery County Bridge 275 over Tookany Creek near Glenside Memorial Hall.

A detour is in place via S. Keswick Ave and E. Glenside Ave. Pedestrian access to Glenside Hall will remain open during construction.

Cheltenham Celebrates America 250

At a December 10, 2025, Public Affairs Committee meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Bill Salvatore announced the Township’s lineup of monthly events for Cheltenham 250 Events, marking the nation’s semi-quincentennial.

Memorial Day: Field of Flags

Commemorate Memorial Day, Saturday, May 23, 11:00 AM at Veteran's Field, at the Veteran’s Memorial, located at the corner of Tookany Parkway and Central Avenue. The ceremony will feature a moving Field of Flags honoring those who gave their lives in service to our nation. 

The program includes guest speakers, remembrances, and patriotic music to reflect the spirit of the day.

Teens! Want more volunteer opportunities? Cheltenham Libraries are now hosting monthly volunteer sessions at Glenside Library!

Come in and create crafts, book reviews, shelf talkers, help with cleaning, gardening, and more. In May, we will make fun projects for the Glenside garden, like crafting bug hotels, painting strawberry rocks, signs for each plant, and more. Ages 14 to 18. Registration required.


Game Night

Have a night out playing board and card games with our open and friendly group. Volunteers will host tables featuring a variety of games. 

No prior knowledge necessary & no registration necessary. Feel free to bring a game you love to teach and play!


Jenkintown Borough Institutes Single Use Plastic Bag Ban

On March 25, 2026, Jenkintown Borough Council passed a new ordinance to reduce plastic waste in the community.

Starting July 23, 2026:

  • Stores may no longer provide single-use plastic bags
  • Customers are encouraged to bring reusable bags
  • Paper or reusable bags may be offered for at least $0.10
  • Stores will switch to compostable straws and stirrers (plastic straws available upon request)

As we head into May, the Jenkintown Food Cupboard would like to share a heartfelt thank you to everyone supporting their mission to end local food insecurity. Your generosity makes their work possible!

Jenkintown 5K Run

Only 6 Weeks til Race Day!

Jenkintown residents, don’t miss the 34th Annual Sunset 5K on Tuesday, June 2!

The fun kicks off at Town Square with a free kids’ dash at 6:30 PM (for ages 6 and under), followed by the main race at 7:00 PM. Come run, volunteer, or cheer on your friends and neighbors along the course. 

There will also be live music at the gazebo from 6:00–8:00 PM and refreshments after the race.

Please note: expect road closures starting around 5:00 PM and some traffic delays as 800–1,000 runners take to the streets. Roads should reopen by about 8:00 PM.

The annual PJ Lawn Memorial Blood Drive

The annual PJ Lawn Memorial Blood Drive is taking place this Saturday, May 16th, 9am - 2pm at Springfield Township High School, Erdenheim!

Springfield Township Named 2025 Tree City USA

Springfield Township has been named a 2025 Tree City USA for the 18th year by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing its ongoing commitment to planting and caring for trees.

The Tree City USA program, now in its 50th year, highlights communities that invest in urban forestry. Trees help reduce heat, improve air quality, manage stormwater, and support overall well-being.

To earn this designation, municipalities must meet key standards, including maintaining a tree program, investing in tree care, and celebrating Arbor Day.

The Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program is administered in partnership with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. To learn more, visit here


Driving Safely During Deer Season

Oh deer! ?? As deer season ramps up, so does the risk of unexpected encounters on the road. Stay alert, especially at dusk and dawn! Slow down, and remember that if you see one deer, more may be nearby. A little extra caution can go a long way in keeping you and others safe! 


E-Bikes and Scooters Scooter

With warmer weather here, the Springfield Township Police Department is reminding residents to safely and legally operate e-bikes and electric scooters this season.

Key reminders:
• E-bike riders must be at least 16 years old
• E-bikes must meet Pennsylvania legal requirements
• Electric scooters are only permitted on private property with permission and are not allowed on public roads or sidewalks

Parents and guardians are encouraged to review safe riding rules with their children to help prevent accidents and injuries.

Come to the Springfield Library on Saturday, May 16th, 2:30 - 4:30p.m. to learn more about the Five Wishes, a living will that talks about your personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes.

Cheltenham Ave Corridor Study

Springfield Township is working with Cheltenham Township, the City of Philadelphia, and Montgomery County to conduct a study of the Paper Mill Rd to Ogontz Avenue section of the Cheltenham Avenue corridor. The study aims to identify improvements that enhance safety and accessibility for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and all roadway users.

The second Open House is here at the Springfield Township Administration Building on Thursday, May 28th.

Free Mulch Pile in Springfield Township

The Township's mulch pile is ready for your gardens! The compost site is full of garden-ready mulch. Springfield Township provides free mulch to all residents. Bring your buckets and shovels and take what you can carry!

Reading Buddies at the Springfield Library

Children in grades K to 5 can help build reading skills and confidence by reading one-on-one with a teen mentor at the library! Registration is required. Sign up for a 30-minute time slot and read with one of our teen volunteers.
