Mazzocco, Venkat, Samuelson to introduce legislation establishing small business healthcare tax credit

(May 11, 2026)

HARRISBURG, May 11 – Today, state Reps. Jen Mazzocco, Arvind Venkat, and Steve Samuelson circulated a co-sponsorship memo for legislation to establish the Small Business Health Care Premiums Contribution Tax Credit. The credit would apply to small businesses that contribute toward their employees’ health insurance premiums through a health reimbursement arrangement purchased through PENNIE, the Commonwealth’s official health insurance marketplace. The bill also includes safeguards related to the quality of health insurance purchased, mirroring laws already enacted in several states. This legislation comes after the end of 2025, when enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act expired, leaving hundreds of thousands of Americans uninsured. In Pennsylvania, more than 130,000 PENNIE enrollees dropped their health plans for 2026. Many of the uninsured are employees of small businesses that cannot afford to provide group health insurance policies. “We are in a full-blown affordability crisis, and this extends to the complex issue of healthcare,” Mazzocco said. “Without a solution from the federal government, we need to do what we can to protect Pennsylvania families, and this bill is an important step toward closing coverage gaps while keeping affordability top of mind.” Venkat, who also serves as a board member for PENNIE, worked on the bill following his own experiences in the Read more

Mt. Lebanon receives $35,000 in funding for EV infrastructure

(Mar 30, 2026)

MT. LEBANON, March 30 – This past week, the municipality of Mt. Lebanon received $35,000 for electric vehicle purchasing and infrastructure, part of a more than $1.47 million investment from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Of the $35,000 investment, $20,000 went to Mt. Lebanon Public Works for the purchase and installation of two dual-port Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. The other $15,000 went to the Mt. Lebanon Municipality and School District EV Program to purchase two Class 1 electric passenger vehicles, one Class 2 electric pickup truck, and two light-duty electric passenger vans. The funding comes through the Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant program, aimed at helping communities purchase alternative fuel vehicles, build infrastructure to support electric vehicles, save on fuel costs, and improve air quality across Pennsylvania. “I’m proud to have this funding secured for my district, particularly in Mt. Lebanon, where transportation is key,” state Rep. Jen Mazzocco said. “At a time when gas prices continue to soar, it’s critical to invest in alternative fuel sources, and electric vehicle infrastructure continues to be a key investment in Mt. Lebanon and across the district.” Projects under the AFIG investment will deploy 47 alternative fuel vehicles and install three new charging stations across the state.
