Eligible U.S. citizens who intend to vote for the first time — or have previously voted but need to file a name change or address change to update their registration information — have until Mon., Oct. 24 to file a voter registration application to qualify to cast a ballot at the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election. Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvanians have a unique opportunity to be quickly pardoned from minor marijuana-related convictions through Governor Tom Wolf and Lt. Governor John Fetterman’s PA Marijuana Pardon Project and time is running out for those interested in applying. More than 2,500 people have already applied for their marijuana convictions to be pardoned through the project and the deadline to apply through the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons is this Friday, September 30, 2022. “Pennsylvanians convicted of simple marijuana charges are automatically disqualified for so many life opportunities: jobs, education, housing, special moments with family. This is wrong,” said Gov. Wolf. “In Pennsylvania, we believe in second chances – I’m urging those eligible to apply now, don’t miss your chance to forge a new path.” “Good people are being held back from living their best lives because of some old nonviolent weed charge,” said Lt. Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency: Regional Policing Assistance Program Who May Apply: Applicants for the Regional Policing Assistance Program may be any municipality – a city, borough, township, home-rule municipality, or county. Applicants may also be a public or quasi-public body, or its representative, duly authorized to act on behalf of one or more municipalities. All applications must be accompanied by fully executed Articles of Agreement or an Intergovernmental Agreement that establishes a Regional Police Department. Use: Funding will support efforts in establishing or expanding regional police departments that would improve the following: uniformity and consistency of enforcement across municipalities; recruitment; distribution and deployment of police personnel; training and personnel efficiency; career enhancement opportunities; enhanced professionalism; and reduction of costs. Funds: A total of approximately $1,000,000 in federal funds is being announced to support this initiative. UPPER DARBY, Sept. 23 – State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, released the following statement today in response to Crozer Health announcing it will close Delaware County Memorial Hospital in 60 days and reopen it as a behavioral health facility: “I am extremely disappointed in the decision to close Delaware County Memorial Hospital,” Curry said. “This decision by Crozer will only exacerbate the inequities of those who live in the 164 th Legislative District and all of Delaware County. “This is really unacceptable. Where do we now go for emergency services? They’re not thinking about what’s best for this community and for the people who live in Upper Darby and the surrounding communities. “I feel that the community was ignored in the decision-making process. It’s very disappointing. This decision will overload the hospitals in the Main Line Health and University of Pennsylvania systems. It means people will have to travel 45-60 minutes to get to a hospital where they can receive care. That’s an unsafe and terrifying prospect. It is also not a viable option for residents who do not have easy access to transportation and now will have to take several buses to get to the closest emergency room. They left us in a desert. UPPER DARBY, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, will host a second virtual panel on equity in education at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29. This community discussion will focus on the impact that mental health has on students and families. School administrators, health officials, parents and community members are invited to attend this virtual discussion. “According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in six U.S. youth aged 6-17 have a mental health condition, but only half receive mental health services,” said Curry. “This past July, our state legislature passed a historic budget that included a $100 million increase for mental health support.
