ALLENTOWN, Nov. 18 -- State Reps. Peter Schweyer, Mike Schlossberg and Jeanne McNeill, all D-Lehigh, announced they will co-host a Building Trades Job Fair from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 375 Headquarters, 101 S. Seventh St. The event is being hosted with support from Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley, The Literacy Center and Jordan Heights. McNeill brings home $210K to renovate Rose Garden Park

BETHLEHEM, Nov. 14 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, has announced that a $210,000 state grant has been awarded to the Rose Garden Park in Bethlehem to renovate the facility. The Rose Garden Park is an eclectic park that has a play area and has a replica of the first home in Bethlehem and a Civil War monument. The garden features more than 100 variety of flowers. “The Rose Garden is the centerpiece of West Bethlehem,” McNeill said. “The park will undergo some improvements that all can enjoy including walking and biking paths, a picnic area, and additional shade in front of the bandshell for concertgoers. I was very happy to work with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to secure the funding for this treasured park in my district.” The grant was awarded through DCNR’s Community Conservation and Partnerships Program, which provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, and trusts, and other nonprofits for planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway project. McNeill and Schweyer announce $150,000 to upgrade Delaware and Lehigh Heritage Corridor LEHIGH, Nov. 13 – State Reps. Jeanne McNeill and Peter Schweyer, both D-Lehigh, have announced that a $150,000 conservation grant to the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Inc. has been awarded for a trail study and development project. The study would review approximately 3.9 miles of the D&L Trail in Hanover and Whitehall townships and the City of Allentown, Lehigh County. “The proposed trail would create a healthy recreation and transportation opportunity for people of all ages, and I am pleased to help secure this funding,” McNeill said. Schweyer said developing trails help people to avoid congested streets and highways and travel through natural areas on foot or non-motorized transportation. “Trails have become sources of community identity and pride and provide people with attractive, safe and low or no cost places to cycle, walk, hike, jog or skate,” Schweyer said. The grant was funded by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resource’s Recreation and Conservation Grant Program, which focuses on conserving and protecting state waterways and outdoor recreational opportunities. McNeill’s free shredding and electronics recycling this Saturday

ALLENTOWN, Nov. 12 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, is reminding residents of Fountain Hill and Salisbury Township about a free shredding and electronics recycling event this Saturday, Nov. 16 where residents can dispose of personal paperwork and unwanted electronics. “Improper disposal of personal documents gives thieves a chance to commit identity fraud,” McNeill said. “This event will make sure those papers are safely and securely destroyed, while also giving residents a chance to get rid of their old, unwanted electronics.” The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill St., Salisbury Township. This event is limited to residents of the 133 rd Legislative District. Residents are limited to 10 boxes of documents. Papers must be loose, with no binder clips or paperclips. For electronics, there is no fee for items such as computers, monitors, DVD and video players, or gaming systems, but there is a fee for televisions. Rep. McNeill votes for package of bills to assist volunteer first responders

st vlunteer first responders HARRISBURG, Oct. 29 – State Rep. Jeannie McNeill, D-Lehigh, voted for legislation that would help Pennsylvania’s volunteer firefighters and EMT companies. The House passed the legislation and the Senate is expected to consider the proposals . McNeill said the 23-bill package came out of a report by the SR 6, commission, which traveled the state to evaluate the plight of volunteer first responders and firefighters. The legislation includes proposals for tuition assistance, loan forgiveness and increased access to mental health care for first responders who suffer from trauma. “First responders in the Lehigh Valley are experiencing declining membership and financial hardship and they need this package of bills to boost their members,” McNeill said. “It’s devastating to think what would happen to communities without first responders and that is why we need to assist them in every way we can.” The following bills in the package have been passed by the full House. Others are slated for upcoming consideration. HB 269: Would exclude an eligible surviving spouse or minor children of a first responder from paying a realty transfer tax. HB 732: Would exempt volunteer service providers from the Pennsylvania realty transfer tax. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, will join Fountain Hill and Salisbury Township in sponsoring a free shredding and electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16 in the parking lot of Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill St., Salisbury Township. “Shredding is a great way to ensure your personal and financial documents are safely and securely disposed of to prevent identity fraud,” McNeill said. “Plus, this year’s event will be a perfect opportunity to safely get rid of your old, unwanted electronics to help ensure harmful chemicals don’t pollute our environment.” Participants must be a resident of the 133 rd District and proof of residency will be required. Those residents can bring their unwanted electronics, as well as any documents to be shredded to this year’s event. Rep. McNeill brings home $1 million for industrial site cleanup

CATASAUQUA, Oct. 23 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, has announced that $1 million has been awarded to the borough of Catasauqua for environmental cleanup of the former Crane Iron Works. “I’ve been working with the Borough of Catasauqua on this project and this will help to move this important development forward. I’m excited for what is planned at this site, which will be a real asset to the residents of Catasauqua,” McNeill said. The funds will be used for the removal of asbestos-containing material throughout the structures, removal and disposal of all debris within the buildings, and capping the site with imported certified clean fill. McNeill said the Industrial Sites Reuse Program provides loans and grants for environmental assessments and remediation carried out by eligible applicants who did not cause or contribute to the contamination. The program is designed to foster the cleanup of environmental contamination at industrial sites, thereby bringing blighted land into productive reuse. House passes Rep. McNeill's bill to extend hours to sell alcohol at performing art facilities

HARRISBURG, Oct. 21 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a bill today co-sponsored by state Reps. Jeanne McNeill, D- Lehigh, and Steve Samuelson, D-Northampton, that would allow performing arts facilities to adjust their operating hours and begin selling alcohol during performances at 10 a.m. on Sundays. McNeill said she introduced the legislation ( H.B. 1589 ) because performing arts facilities are still prohibited from selling alcohol before 1 p.m. on Sundays even though other licensed establishments are permitted to begin selling earlier on Sundays. “The hours change would better accommodate the various show times, which often begin before 1 p.m.,” McNeill said. “Pennsylvania has 95 active and pending performing arts facility licensees that would benefit from this change.” In addition, the legislation also would allow small movie theatres to quality for a performing arts facility license. To qualify, a movie theatre would have to have seating for at least 100 people, but no more than 300 to 350 people. The small movie theatre must screen independent films, foreign films, classic films and second-run films on no more than four movie screens. Independent films are defined in the legislation as features and films produced outside a major film studio system, or by an independent entertainment agency. McNeill lauds $37,780 in school safety grants

HARRISBURG, Oct. 18 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, announced today the Catasauqua Area School District, Whitehall-Coplay School District and Saint Elizabeth Regional School are receiving a combined $37,780 in school safety grants. McNeill said the funding will enable these local schools to prevent and reduce violent incidents by providing training and compensation for school resource and police officers and acquire safety and security-related equipment. “These funds will ensure that students can learn, grow and thrive in a safe and secure environment,” McNeill said. “I am pleased to see the state prioritizing the safety of our kids and teachers, while giving families some much needed peace of mind.” The Catasauqua Area School District is awarded $24,921 in the form of a 2019-20 equipment grant. Rep. McNeill: $60,000 in state funding for Whitehall Parkway Pavilion

WHITEHALL, Sept. 17 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, today announced $60,000 in funding has been awarded to Whitehall Township to construct a Whitehall Parkway Pavilion through the state’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. The project will consist of installing a pre-engineered open-air pavilion with restrooms and concession areas in Whitehall Parkway. “This project is an important part of Lehigh Valley’s recreational and tourism attractions, which host many visitors throughout the year,” McNeill said.
